When he arrives, Nate finds a neglected case and a looming trial date for double murder. Historia
On Manhattan’s East Side a woman lies dead at the bottom of the stairs, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better. A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn’t seem the type to be on anyone’s hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the building, the lieutenant knows Marta’s murder was the work of a killer who’s trained, but not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.

Not the best book in the series
Revisado: 03-04-13
I still loved the book, but I have listened to all of the books recently in succession and this wasn't my favorite. That being said I still loved it. Susan Erickson does an excellent job narrarating. In fact, she has ruined my other series' that I listen too. They are just not up to her entertaining engaging narration. Really felt this book could have had more depth. Especially at the apprehension of the killer. Would have like to have read a little more about the party and personal interactions. The absolute worst thing about this series, is waiting for the next book to come out.

Historia
In a New York City fifty years in the future, Detective Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law — including the ones sworn to uphold it. Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a brutal, senseless crime — an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. And for the first time, Peabody is primary detective on the case, which means she has to get used to a new level of authority and responsibility. Good thing she learned the ropes from a master like Eve. But after rounding up the perps, Peabody stumbles upon a much trickier situation.

Entriguing, gripping. One of my favorite In Death books and I have listened to the entire series in order. You find out the villians right from the beginning, but that only adds to the story. Would re-read or re-listen to this book again and I will - it was just that good!

Historia
Determined to find out what happened to her former deputy chief, Jack Fielding, murdered six months earlier, Kay Scarpetta travels to the Georgia Prison for Women, where an inmate has information not only on Fielding, but also on a string of grisly killings. The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people as far away as California seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning....

Seems like another author wrote the story
Revisado: 01-10-12
I have read and listened to many, many of Patricia Cornwell's books and used to snatch them up the minute they hit the stands. But then they started to deteriorate. This certainly falls into that category. The passion between Kay and her co-workers is luke warm at the very best. They might be talking about Marino or Scarpetta or other familiar characters, but that is just it, they don't feel familiar. Although the plot line is fine, the book just feels like something to kill time with.

I love these types of story lines. However, a 17 year old apprentice coroner/ME helper, is a bit of a stretch to believe. Especially all of the crime solving she does. And the narrartor is almost like nails on a chalk board.
