the story and performance was perfect. they did justice and more to the book and Bloom and Palmini were spectacular. the story made sense, the tension was captured perfectly and I would do anything to listen to this again for the first time. 10000/100

I loved that even though it was a single narrator, they didn't try to overdo their voice when they narrated other characters. just enough to tell a difference! the plot grips you from the beginning, and I can't wait to get into the second book!!

Loved the modern fantasy

I loved how the author made the intermingling of fables and mythology to the modern fantasy setting of new sinsi. the world building, despite being fantasy, really made you feel like it could exist. the dynamics between the characters felt so natural as well. please skip this next part of your dont want spoilers

a little corny/cringey

although the overall plot/story is cute the writing is so cringey. the way the characters speak sound like a 14 yr old wrote the dialogue. It really detracts from someone who is supposedly 30 yrs old. personally I think the nicknames are weird too rather than cute.. I think the narration/performance is done well, as it follows how it is written, but I really can't stand hearing Finnie say "cool" or "awesome" or hearing "wee Finnie" any longer.

at times the audio quality dips, it sounds like they re-recorded one sentence and spliced it in. which is distracting.

Takes way too long

the first two books seemed promising but I find myself zoning out often now that I've reached this point. it's getting hard to complete this series and the writing is repetitive and stagnant. this audiobook would not be 20+ hrs if they didn't repeat so many things over and over.

the narrator isnt bad, she has range but I find that the internal voice that I imagine is different from what's portrayed.

you grow with the main character, you fall in love with the ones portrayed by Hur. at times you forget to breath because of the progression. I would recommend this book over and over. it's beautifully written and well narrated

Need some serious willing suspension of disbelief

I loved the characters that Ana Huang creates, but the sheer amount of "okay, yeah sure" whenever talking about the ML was what disturbed the flow of the story. Like his very first appearance was with a six-figure car. It's almost as much volume as a K-drama. As long as you're aware of that going into it, it's not a bad read. I would say that the relationship turns very steamy.

After reading the others in the series and a few other of Huang's books, i love the character cross over. Though i feel like the friendships are portrayed better in the other books within this series, it was nice to see the development and support between the ML and FL. The narrators, in my opinion, do an excellent job of showcasing the personality of Ava and Alex. The female narrator speaking in the male voice is not my favorite, but it's bearable compared to some others, and vice versa.

Didn't really make sense

Although I appreciated that they gave some more character depth to the ML, the story itself was kind of hard to get in to. I understand that the nickname for the ML was to highlight his character, but it's so unbelievably cringey. At least i was able to complete the story. The chemistry is so-so and there were parts that just didn't really make sense in terms of their relationship to one another. The narrators weren't bad, but they weren't the best. I was kind of confused how they made a SoCal guy sound like he was the one from the south and vice versa.

but I was so thrown off by the male narrator. why does he sound like a drunken uncle at a tavern.... it's hard to complete when it sounds like a young lady about to be groomed by a decrepit old man. I will probably try and power through, but the joy of the story is definitely taken back by their narration choice.
