Who spilled a trashy romance all over my superhero origin story?
Revisado: 05-20-24
Without giving too much away there are two narrators. one covers the superhero origin story and the other... well... is all about how a woman of the 70s gets all school girl gushy about men. I finally had to stop listening. it was getting real old real quick.

To Nerdly Go Where No AI Has Gone Before.
Revisado: 05-08-24
If you're not a real deep down Sci Fi Nerd you're not going to like this book. if you're a Christian, don't bother, this will anger you beyond words. If you've never been to a big Sci Fi / Fantasy convention, aside from asking asking what's wrong with you, you're just not going to get it.
However, if you love Nerd Culture and aren't religious this is an amazing book. Like I said in the title of my review, it's Nerds in Space.

Great story, not so great narration.
Revisado: 04-04-24
This needed a narrator who could read this in a far more whimsical way. He was just too serious about teddy bears and toy tanks fighting a war on a world where mercury was the equivalent of water. Otherwise the world was amazing and the writing was top notch.

Historia
The CEO of Nanogate works closely with other mega-corporate magnates to control everything in their path. Together they suborn governments, police, and anything else barring their way to greater profits. As the cool, enigmatic leader of the Green Action Militia, Sonya drives the organization’s agenda through murder and destruction among the corporate elite. The higher the body count, the more their cause earns credibility. Tony Sammis, mid-level functionary, sinks further and further into the apathy of his own dreary existence as a cog in the great commercial machine.

I usually can't stand Cyberpunk novels.
Revisado: 04-04-24
The typical cyberpunk novel is all about the oppressive world build by greedy corporations working toward only profit and governments being slaves to the corporate masters. It's just so depressing. it's too real. I prefer a bit more hope and happy in a book.
While this novel was filled with the depression inducing dystopia future the charachters were worth the listen. They were human in a world that dehumanizies everything. They made the book worth listening to.
This TANSTAFALA Press has had a couple of good hits. I may look into them more.

It's kind of porny and occasionally a bit woke.
Revisado: 03-15-24
The stories are well written and thought out. They are interesting to listen to, but you can tell that some of the authors are pushing toward the woke side of things. Not offensively but to the detriment of the stories. Men are often negatively portrayed as weak and useless while women are most often strong and powerful.
I could ignore it until the invisible man story had a black man in the modern era being treated as if it were the era of Jim Crow. If a black man with a useful degree is being treated poorly and being called openly the diversity hire he can move to another employer, he hasn't been sold to that corporation. Lincoln did free the slaves after all.
In horror suspension of disbelief is very important. Setting up a situation that makes no sense in the real world distracts from the supernatural stuff I am supposed to believe.

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

A good listen, if you've an open mind.
Revisado: 02-27-24
I don't fully agree with a few of the assertions, I do understand the logic behind them but as an American I have a greater distrust of government than a brit may have. While I agree that religious indoctrination is a form of child abuse I see no cure for it in government education since whichever side is in the majority simply uses it for their own indoctrination assured that their world view is the best one for all people. Leftist indoctrination is not superior to Rightist indoctrination. Both are religious in nature and both are filled with all sorts of bad ideas.
Otherwise I agree wholeheartedly with what he says. I suspect my mother would die of an aneurysm if she were to listen to this book and find that out.

Do you love sparkly vampires? Well, too bad, because you won’t find a single one of those fancy-dancy bloodsuckers anywhere in this collection! It Came from the Trailer Park began as a fun idea to revisit the classic horror and old-school creature feature genres, with a hefty helping of B-rate tropes thrown in for good measure. Who doesn’t love a good Bruce Cambell or classic Vincent Price flick on a dark and dreary night? Emmy award winner Bill Oberst, Jr. opens the collection and sets the stage for the stories to come.

With his epic novels of alternate history, Harry Turtledove shares a stunning vision of what might have been - and what might still be - if one moment in history were changed. In the Worldwar and Colonization series, an ancient, highly advanced alien species found itself locked in a bitter struggle with a distant, rebellious planet: Earth. For those defending the Earth, this all-out war for survival supercharged human technology, made friends of foes, and turned allies into bitter enemies.
