Makes you miss Percy
Revisado: 08-06-10
I see that many others feel the same way about these books. They were good, but do not reach the heights of the Percy Jackson tales. I hope that the next book elevates the narrative to the level of the Olympian stories. Katherine Kellgren is amazing again, and I find myself seeking out books that she has read because of her incredible talent.

Great concept, but too much whining
Revisado: 08-06-10
I enjoyed many parts of this book, but in the end there was just too much whining. I am not sure if the author was chasing the same crowd that so loves the Twilight series, but the book reads in very much the same way. Too much of the book is convenient, and the parts that are well done leave you wishing the book was more consistent. In the end it is a forgettable story that makes you shake your head at what could have been.

Great fun, and wonderful Easter Eggs
Revisado: 06-02-10
I liked this book a great deal, and the ending made me love it. There are some wonderful allusions to other great works of fiction spread throughout, but the ending was absolutely brilliant!

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Terrible Narrator, unlikeable protagonist
Revisado: 05-23-10
This book was clearly a take on Stephen King's The Running Man, but I loved the concept. Its another example of missed potential. You like many of the characters in the book, but the protagonist is not one of them. Ultimately it pushes the willing suspension of disbelief too far and become tedious.
I suggest reading the Bloody Jack series by L A Meyer. You will love them.

Terrible Decision to change the narrator
Revisado: 04-07-10
I love these books, and part of the reason I love listening to them was Nathaniel Parker's amazing narration. So many of our favorite characters come back in this book it was shocking to hear them in such wooden narration. I would purchase this book again if it were rerecorded.
However if the next book does not go back to Nathaniel I will be sticking to the hard cover.

Historia
Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful - too beautiful for words. Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings. In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

Twilight...with fairies
Revisado: 04-02-10
Not sure what to say here. It reads like a lighter take on Twilight. I did not like that book, so I do not enjoy this one. There is some potential with the story, but it definitely was written for the tween set. Apparently Miley Cyrus is tapped to play the lead character in the movie version of this novel. If you like Hannah Montana I am sure you will like this.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Imagine Lord of the Flies, by Stephen King
Revisado: 03-19-10
I was blown away by this book. The length was daunting, but after reading it I have no idea what I would have cut. Every scene is important and the story moves at a rather brisk pace. I loved Lord of the Flies when I first read it. Having just finished UtD I no longer have to imagine what Stephen would have done with the same material.

Horrible Disappointment
Revisado: 01-12-10
I really enjoyed the first two books of this series. Koontz succeeds in removing every bit of pleasure I took from those books. If you have read the first two and have been looking forward to the completion of the series, do yourself a favor, give this one a pass.
The ending you imagine is much better than this bit of dross.

A Great Time
Revisado: 11-13-09
This book will not win any awards for prose, nor will it forge any new genre of literature. What it will do is give you a great few hours of fun. If we could give half stars this would be a 3.5. I have recommended it as escapist reading to several of my friends and they have felt the same way. This book is a completely entertaining way to waste a few hours. Turn off you brain and have a ball.
