Sean Dietrich hits another home run! I listened to The incredible Winston Browne on Audible as opposed to reading the actual book because I am in my car so much. Now, I am glad I did because the narration was the perfect way to really settle into this book with the characters and the setting.

The characters are all very memorable but the main focus of this book, Winston Browne, is no doubt my favorite. This book brings back all the nostalgia of the past and makes you crave the simpler times, the small towns, and the interactions with people on an everyday basis. In this age of social media, social distancing, mistrust, and cancel culture, this is a reminder that we would be so much better off if we could go back to these times of love, friendship, hope, forgiveness, and respect for each other.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sean in person at a book signing here in Mobile, Alabama and his humbleness, genuine kindness, and just down to earth demeanor makes him so likeable, and just makes me love the books that much more.

A decent read

This book was the group read of the month. I was a tad bit disappointed by Thirteen. Even though the plot is definitely interesting the writing is mediocre. Having said that, it does keep your interest enough to keep reading somehow. The author relies much too much on detailed accounts of the murders without key characters being developed fully. Also, the book progresses pretty evenly for about 75% of the book and then seems to go off the rails at the end. Plot twists are always good if they are built into the entirety of the book a little at a time but this was like the author threw in 17 plot twists in the last 7 chapters and it came across as far-fetched. Overall, it is pretty good, not exceptional. The narration was ok. The only con to it was when it shifted characters sometimes it was hard to tell as there were few differentiating components.

Well Written YA Debut

Starts a bit slow but enjoyable from the get go- The author develops the characters very nicely. I will say you don't figure out the ending until you get there. I did think it ended a little too quickly, with lots of information being sort of summarized instead of really getting to see the what it meant for the characters, but I think that mostly stood out to me because the rest of the book was so well developed. On the whole, this was really good read.

Waited for an ending that never came

Ive heard of haply endings, sad endings, and even ordinary endings but this is a whole new thing. I feel like this book was on the way to the publisher and the last 4 chapters were dropped and they just went with ot anyways. a long slow build to a story you think is going to come to a conclusion and just never does.

Supernatural Thriller

Really enjoyed this book. The way the different characters perspectives are all tied together is very well told. Character development was good. Storyline was good. Narration was good. Kept you guessing until the end.

Fell a little flat

Good for a prequel but felt a bit forced and uneven. Felt like the writing could have gone on but deadline came so had to finish and just threw the rest in the epilogue.
Narrator was ok but lacked expression and when there were songs (and there were many) he talked them out (somewhat painfully) instead of actually trying to do a medley with them or even a softer tone. Overall good read.
