Revisado: 08-25-20
Although this book doesn't tell us anything new about the 45th president, it does give us some insight into why he is the way he is and those waiting for him to "grow into the job" need to know that is never going to happen. A fascinating look into a VERY dysfunctional family. Well written and well read.

Historia
A modern classic, Einstein's Dreams is a fictional collage of stories dreamed by Albert Einstein in 1905, when he worked in a patent office in Switzerland. As the defiant but sensitive young genius is creating his theory of relativity, a new conception of time, he imagines many possible worlds. In one, time is circular, and people are fated to repeat their triumphs and failures over and over. In another, there is a place where time stands still, visited by lovers and parents clinging to their children.

What a class act.
Revisado: 02-11-19
First of all, I miss having honorable people in the White House. This book reminded me that what we are living through is NOT normal. That Americans are, overall, good people who love their country. I wish I could express myself as eloquently as Michelle Obama. Listening to your voice has given me hope again. Thank you for that.

Another winner from Liz Nugent
Revisado: 07-25-18
After loving Lying in Wait, I decide to try another book by Liz Nugent and this one was just as excellent--not only the story, but also the narration. Having a different narrator for each character really makes the story come alive. This one is not a "murder mystery" but more of a psychological study. ( I wouldn't call it a "thriller" but it is riveting.) Someone on Amazon called this a "whydunnit", which is an perfect description.
Liz Nugent is the Queen of first lines--she ropes you in immediately and doesn't let you go until the last page. Her writing is clear, concise and clever. I highly recommend both this book and Lying in Wait. I've just downloaded her third (and unfortunately final book) Skin Deep. I hope she continues writing more wonderful books in the future.

I can't get enough of Harry Bosch!
Revisado: 06-27-18
My husband and I listen to Harry Bosch when ever we take a long trip. The stories are always riveting, which makes a long drive go faster. We started with some of his later books, but have now started back at the beginning, reading them in order. These books could stand alone, but it's really better to read them in order because they do refer back to things that happened in earlier stories.
Titus Welliver (who plays Harry Bosch in the Netflix series and reads the later books) is the quintessential Bosch, but Dick Hill is a very good narrator too. If you like "police procedurals" you can't go wrong with Harry Bosch.

Delightfully eerie story--Excellent narration
Revisado: 06-27-18
I'm still thinking about this book, several days after finishing it. The writing was gripping, with wonderful character development and an original plot with several unexpected twists. However, as good as the story is, the thing that sets this audiobook apart from the pack is the SUBERB narration by all three readers--absolutely flawless. Highly recommended.

Historia
Edward St. Aubyn has penned one of the most acclaimed series of the decade with the Patrick Melrose Novels. Now you can listen to all five novels in one volume: Never Mind, Bad News, Mother's Milk, Some Hope, and At Last. By turns harrowing and hilarious, this ambitious novel cycle dissects the English upper class. Edward St. Aubyn offers his listener the often darkly funny and self-loathing world of privilege as we follow Patrick Melrose's story of abuse, addiction, and recovery from the age of five into early middle age.

I tried, I really tried!
Revisado: 06-19-18
Although this book is very well-written -- and I could listen to Alex Jennings read the phone book -- I could not get past the first part (Never Mind and Bad News) of this recording. There is not one sympathetic character that I cared to know more about. After listening to Patrick's drug-induced tirade while he was at Pierre's apartment in New York City, I just had to give up. I had pre-ordered the DVD starring Benedict Cumberbatch, but I have since canceled that--there is no way I want to spend any more time with these people--not even if Patrick is portrayed by one of my favorite actors. I know these books are "classics" but they just were not for me.

I'm hooked!
Revisado: 03-15-18
I just downloaded Shadows over the Fens, the second book in the Nikki Galena series, because I enjoyed this one so much. I take the bus to work, and I like to have a good whodunit to listen to everyday--not too convoluted to follow, with characters who are worth caring about and believable and a good story that holds my interest--oh, and a narrator who is a joy to listen to. This book meets all those requirements. I so glad to see there are at least three more in the series.

Picks up where The Lewis Man ends
Revisado: 03-10-18
I have now listened to all three books in the series (to include The Lewis Man and The Chessmen) and each are excellent. I think it helps to listen to them in order because the relationships grow with each book. This book explains what happens after the dramatic climax of The Lewis Man.
I highly recommend the entire series--but listen to them in order or you might be lost.
