I bought this book on the strength of James Lee Burke talent, despite the poor reviews of this book's narrator. As much as I love Burke's writing I almost quit this book half a dozen times due to the poor narration. Shouldn't Nick Sullivan listen to a Southern African- American before he just creates a new dialect? All the African- Americans sound like they are from the Carriabian Islands. Clete sounds like a polished business executive. Nick you failed. I hope Burke bans Mr. Sullivan from ever reading his books again.

Craig Johnson has got to be a pseudonym for James Lee Burke. The formula is exact!
Former Vietnam Vet lawman dealing with anger issues and dead wife, and romancing a new one. His best friend is a Vietnam Vet, who drives a clunker and even though not a law officer, he is the Sheriff’s back up man. Small police force and the best cops on it are women. Main character has an only female daughter who is a college grad. Main character also has several bullet wounds. Alcoholism is featured throughout story… the list of similarities is never ending… Don’t get me wrong. I am not complaining, it is a great story. Oh, George Guidall is a star narrator!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Only if they were Sci-Fi Fantasy aficionados, and then, only on the strength of the performance of Ray Porter.

What could Peter Clines have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

He could have filled in the holes of the plot. I know this was fantasy but his characters went from acting like morons to scientists within three sentences.

Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?

The Indian hacker.

Did 14 inspire you to do anything?

I will seek more of Ray Porter's work.

Any additional comments?

Ray Porter's performance made a bad story into one worth sticking with. I honestly don't regret buying this silly story.

Where does In One Person rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

7 out of 10

What did you like best about this story?

John Irving could write about protoplasm and make it interesting.

Have you listened to any of John Benjamin Hickey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He sounded familiar, smooth delivery, I'll remember his name.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

By bringing to life the arrogent, in your face, selfish attitudes and life styles of the homosexuals, transexual, and perverse characters in this book and by detailing the resulting agonizing death and despair that this lifestyle has brought to society, Mr. Irving has only served to further alinate real life homosexuals to mainstream society.By serving up what most folks in our society find perverse and taboo and presenting it as normal does not enlighten, it repulses.

Any additional comments?

Any author that can write a story that angers and repulses, but at the same time captivate a reader(listener) is a great writer. I will stand in line to read Irving's next offering.

One of the top 10%.

What did you like best about this story?

I became friends with the characters... and made a few new enemies as well.

Which scene was your favorite?

The respect shown to Mulligan by "the business men" by dismissing him from the long table before business was concluded.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"I gotta change that ring tone..."

Any additional comments?

If you like Lee Child and John Sanford you must buy this book.

What disappointed you about The Next Right Thing?

I couldn't finish this. All the characters were a bunch of drama queens, getting way too involved in each other's busness and making mountains out of molehills... Hated it!

What do you think your next listen will be?

The possibilities are endless

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He read it aloud.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not really...

Any additional comments?

No.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The stories were just silly, juvenile.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ty Schwamberger again?

Never.

How could the performance have been better?

The female voices sounded exactly like comedian Pablo Fransico when he he is being funny.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from For After Midnight?

The various sex scenes read like they were written by Bevis and Butthead.

Any additional comments?

The book is dedicated to the author's fifth grade teacher... I think because he wrote them in her class. Just immature silliness.
