Historia
Having just celebrated her 26th birthday in 1976 California, Dana, an African-American woman, is suddenly and inexplicably wrenched through time into antebellum Maryland. After saving a drowning White boy there, she finds herself staring into the barrel of a shotgun and is transported back to the present just in time to save her life. During numerous such time-defying episodes with the same young man, she realizes she's been given a challenge.

Beautifully miserable
Revisado: 07-08-20
A very clever time hopping story. With each trip your heart sinks for Dana and you know that ultimately things can't miraculously change; the world we live in is the way it is and the book will probably stay in this reality. But you hope and keep hoping that perhaps small things can change, here and there a little alleviation of the pain we've put on slaves, a little enlightenment of the white population one evil person at a time... you're relieved with each return Dana makes and wonder when the hops through time will end. While this book was written decades ago many elements unfortunately, remain.

Cosmos is one of the bestselling science books of all time. In clear-eyed prose, Sagan reveals a jewel-like blue world inhabited by a life form that is just beginning to discover its own identity and to venture into the vast ocean of space.

What's the meaning of life
Revisado: 06-28-20
You really can't critique the closest answer we'll ever get to this age old question. Cosmos isn't just about the stars in the sky and definitely not about what sign you are, it takes you out into the galaxies as well as deep into the petri dish. The foundation of science is here, the core of questions we asked since we became us, the answers we've discovered and deduced, our relationship with the natural world and the unknown. For some that's sacrilegious but that's an interpretation, by no means did I find it as anti-religion, I found it as an explanation as to why religions developed their beliefs when there was no other answer. That's it, no disrespect to denominations. I can see the world and universe as a magical and magnificent existence just as anyone else, religion or none.
To those who didn't like the narration, I disagree. The narrators here are not just narrating, they have earned accolades in the field or been a part of the Sagan and Cosmos' story. Granted, Levar Burton can do no wrong in my eyes, but to carry dense material throughout, hold the wonder and explain as he did is quite the responsibility. They all have my respect.

Historia
It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute. The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low.

Good origin, a bit too quick to resolve
Revisado: 06-06-20
There were times your heart goes out to young Snow even though you know he ends up as an evil character in the later books. The entire book builds up to end quickly and his arc lands him squarely on his path to president as a youngster. Any affection and sympathy you had for him you know you can let go as well and I think that's what I missed; it explains his rationalization of the Games, how the end of his innocence led to a stone hearted success, but perhaps I wanted to like him longer or find reason to see something other than an early emergence of a future tyrant.
audio note: I thought it interesting that the audio revisions weren't always smooth. Some sentences were clear pick ups sounding like they were added in a different room entirely. The narrator was great and it didn't detract from the story, but for a major release the publisher/producers should have noticed them.

Cute and inspiring
Revisado: 11-13-15
If you could sum up If I Were Taylor Swift: Little Nia's Dream in three words, what would they be?
Great for kids
What did you like best about this story?
This story is very positive, and even has the "mean girl" turn around at the end. While we know this doesn't always happen, it's nice to think that it's possible.
Any additional comments?
My only critique is I personally think it was miscast. The narrator did a wonderful job with delivery, but as it is a first person narrative, I would have preferred a young american girl character telling it.

Gabby was what you would call your average seven-year-old girl. Or at least she was average when you first met her. She had a big brother, she loved her mommy and daddy, she hated going to bed, and she definitely hated brushing her hair.
