Awesome book and the narrator gets better with each story. I really hope there are at least seven books in the series as each character deserves their own story with Evan and how they fit with the rest of his Harem. I'm really glad about the identity of the hero in the fourth book and I think the gentle giant will be the hero in the fifth. I have no idea who the "elegant man" is that Evan saw in his dream, especially since Lupin says Evan has already met him but even though he is already known to us (and Evan), he still deserves his own story.

While the book is very good, it is the talent of Joel Leslie that takes it to a higher level. I have gone on and read the rest of this series, including the "Here Be Dragons" series that follows, and Joel Leslie keeps all the accents throughout them all! It is PHENOMENAL!! Each book is about two different characters that are mostly introduced in this book and all the accents chosen fit them and continue in each book. That takes so much talent. Kudos to Joel Leslie for doing this. I have listened to other series voiced by the same narrator, but, at least for the ones I have listened to, the narrator didn't use the same voice for the different characters. Gideon's voice in this book is the same voice for Noah's book and David's book and even Percy's book (Here Be Dragons series). Same for all the other voices. So satisfying, as a listener, to know who is speaking without having to have the narrator say "so-and-so said", totally able to immerse yourself in the series, like listening to movies with an entire cast.

Love this series so very much, but the best part about the audio is Joel Leslie's talent. Not only does he have distict voices for each character (and there are a lot), but he keeps the same voice throughout the entire series. So, the way that Alistair sounds in this book is the exact same way he sounds in Sam's book and in Noah's book. This is phenomenal and so perfect for the listener. I have listened to other audio book series in which the same narrator voices the characters and this is the only series that has the same voice for the same character. In other series, the narrator has a set "voice" for the main characters and they keep that same "main characters voice" no matter who the book is about. So I, as the listener, has to listen in the beginning to determine who is speaking. In this series, as soon as the voice talks, you know who is speaking, without having to hear "blank says". The voice for Sam, Gideon, Percy, Noah, David, etc in the first book is the voice for Sam, Gideon, Percy, Noah, David, etc in this book. One billion stars for Joel Leslie! Kudos to Louisa Masters for writing such a fun series and if the choice of narrator is yours, one billion stars for you!!

Very misleading cover....this book has nothing to do with the King and his co-horts, as this cover suggests. This is the story of Skeeves search for Aahz.

I love the fact that the same narrator voices the series. It was difficult for me to warm to the voice used for Aahz in the beginning, but I have grown accustomed to it. There isn't much of a range of emotions that the voice can cover, though, it all sounds to same even if Aahz is supposed to sound sad, mad, glad, etc.

In this book, all the citizens in Perv seem to have the same voice, so it is difficult to tell who is speaking. That is the reason for the dock in a star...

The new narrator takes some getting used too. The different voices are awesome, with more of a distinct voice between the different characters, much better than the last narrator tbh. The lower score for performance is because of the whiney voice used between character voices. We open in a fight scene, and the narrative voice is very off-putting. The voice used seems almost humorous or belittling the action at times, very much at odds with the life-or-death fight scene the words convey.

With all that being said, I hope Zachary adjusts his narrative voice to one more fitting the action in future books. There is a question like lilt to each sentence that I hope he can tune out. The character voices are awesome, so hopefully Zachary can adjust the narrative voice to something slightly different than Mads speaking voice. Most of the book is thru his eyes, so I would assume our thoughts are close to our speaking voice.

Be aware of trigger warnings.

Adore Fluke. The book is full of action, intrigue, romance and family. Sage is finally in his element, knowing what he can do and finally owning it. I really think we need more from this world, though...how did Quinn and Sterling meet? And a whole mini series on Fluke and his Familiar searches....starting with this one.

Zachary is getting better with each book but while there is some distinction between Sage and Gideon, the other male characters tend to sound alike. The female characters have little to no distinction in accents, even though there are characters from the upper class, middle working class, India and Asian culture.

I love how Sage has grown, not only in magic but in confidence. All the characters are fun but the narrator doesn't have any distinguishing accents or tones to let the listener know who is speaking. Iris should have an upper crust tone, the doc who finally banishes the father is from India, Sage's father sounds like Gideon; Beez, Jordan and Sage sound the same...and there are other characters who sound like everyone. If the author hadn't put in the words "Gideon said" or added Sage's father's name after the dialog, no one could tell who had spoke or was speaking. I'm sure Zachary will improve but after the mastery of Joel, it was disappointing.

I have heard books read by Joel Leslie and been amazed by the differences he puts into each character's voice, but obviously this one, he goes beyond. In other audible books, I've always had a hard time distinguishing between the character's 'mind speak' versus 'voice speak' but in this book, Joel gives the MC's inner dialog a different voice. Not only do we have the inner dialog of the MC, we get his voice, the Scottish voice of his lover, the faint burr of his lover's female friend, the Chinese accent of her lover, the burr of the MC's dad, the voice of an elder woman, the English accent of a male friend, the French accent of another friend, the Italian accent of another friend, the New York accents of the MC's co-workers, the Spanish accent of another male friend, along with a few minor characters, each one with a distinct tone. Mind-blowing.

Then there is the book. NR Walker pens such believable character's, each with faults and strengths. All the characters in this book were written like they were real people, friends and neighbors. I enjoyed all the action, the twists of the story and the final climax. Well done. Thank goodness there are a few sequels, because I want more.

The story is fantastic. I enjoy the characters and the growth that has happened in each book. Warning... Some small spoilers ahead. It is nice to see Crash grow but especially the growth that Vic has gone through. I'm really glad that Maurice joined the festivities but I wish we could have seen Vic notice Carolyn interacting with Jacob (a hug between them would have been great). Even though they aren't close friends, a sighting of Zigler in the wedding crowd, or of Zig's daughter getting hair cut tips from Crash and Red would have been a nice touch.

I have listened to the audio books in this series back-to-back. There were quite a few times during this recording that I noticed Gomez drop Vic's accent, like make him sound off for a few sentences. The audio ended strong, which is why I only dropped one star.

I love all of the books about Jon and Donavan. I would love them even more if Mack and Brandon's adventures were included in audio as well. Especially since Jon is the reason Mack met Brandon...and the fact that the Tree Troubles includes both.
