Historia
Charles "Jay" Tice was a legend throughout the world of international intelligence. But secretly he was also a traitor, reputedly selling information that will seriously compromise the security of the United States for decades to come. Since his treachery was exposed, Tice has been kept under strict surveillance in a maximum security prison. Then one morning, his cell is discovered empty. Same old, same old.
Revisado: 09-17-10
I looked at my wife thirty minutes into this one and told her the rest of the plot until the end of the book and was actually right. If you have ever seen a "cop/buddy" movie or a 1980's spy movie, you have already heard this story. Not worth the time at all.

Historia
Only a handful of fictional characters are recognized by first name alone. Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas is one such literary hero, who has come alive in listeners’ imaginations as he explores the greatest mysteries of this world and the next with his inimitable wit, heart, and quiet gallantry. Now Koontz follows Odd as he is drawn onward, to a destiny he cannot imagine. Haunted by dreams of an all-encompassing red tide, Odd is pulled inexorably to the sea, to a small California coastal town where nothing is as it seems.

Great series.
Revisado: 10-29-08
Perfect narration for a series that I can't get enough of. A polite, young fry cook who happens to see dead people and occasionally tries to save the world. What's not to love? Dean Koontz does dark humor surprisingly well.

Historia
Cotton Malone retired from the high-risk world of elite operatives to lead the life of a rare-book dealer. But his quiet existence is shattered when he receives an anonymous e-mail: " You have something I want. You're the only person on earth who knows where to find it. If I don't hear from you, you will be childless." His ex-wife confirms that their teenage son has been kidnapped, and it becomes clear that those responsible will stop at nothing to get what they want: the lost library of Alexandria.

Hey, it's Steve Berry.
Revisado: 10-29-08
Steve Berry: Flat characters, impossible plots, questionable dialogue, everything the critics say is pretty much right. But, these books are entertaining and will get you through just about any road trip without too much thinking.
Mr. Berry may never win a Nobel for literature, but he writes a good, quick moving "shoot 'em up" mystery in the style of the old Shadow or Doc Savage dime novels.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

And I don't even like The Wizard of Oz...
Revisado: 10-29-08
An entertaining and different look into Oz. Makes me think a little bit about what would have happened if Harry Potter had grown up on the wrong side of the tracks.
I've never cared for the movie, so I tried not to like this when the wife put it on, but it sucked me in and took me along for a ride I enjoyed.
Only three stars since I don't care for the author's reading skills. They are passable here, but go rapidly downhill as the series progresses.

Historia
Ten years after the publication of Wicked, beloved novelist Gregory Maguire returns at last to the land of Oz. There he introduces us to Liir, an adolescent boy last seen hiding in the shadows of the castle after Dorothy did in the Witch. Bruised, comatose, and left for dead in a gully, Liir is shattered in spirit as well as in form. But he is tended at the Cloister of Saint Glinda by the silent novice called Candle, who wills him back to life with her musical gifts.

Turned it off.
Revisado: 10-29-08
I enjoyed Wicked, the first installment in this series. This time around, however, the author should have hired a professional voice performer. The narration was so poorly done and irritating that I didn't make it through the first half. The reading carries a pace that reminds me of the jerky, halting attempts young children make when reading aloud in the classroom.
Read the book later and enjoyed the story much more without the author trying to stumble through it.

Historia
The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning, along with the houses in which they were hidden. Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires, and he enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for 10 years, and never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs, nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames. He never questioned anything, until he met a 17-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid, and a professor who told him of a future in which people could think. Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do.

What can I say? Have loved the book since I was a kid. I travel quite a bit and thought that I would re-read this one Audible style on a recent trip. Good narration and performance of a great work. If you like Orwell, this is one that needs to be in your library.

Demons in the Spring is a collection of 20 short stories by Joe Meno, author of the smash hits The Boy Detective Fails and Hairstyles of the Damned. In these stories, oddly modern moments occur in the most familiar of public places.

Quirky and unique. A few of the stories, although good, weren't my "cup of tea" but that was more than made up for by the others that I have since gone back and listened to repeatedly. Good narration, too. All in all, well done.
