I enjoy this author
Revisado: 01-30-24
the reading was good. story was creepy repleat with absolutely worthless criminal characters. easily recognizable black and white. I was disappointed in some of the main character's extremely stupid choices.
its a cheap way to develop a story--unless youre making a point that an important aspect of your character is either stupidity or the victim of undeniably bad parenting, in which case a character needs more back story than this otherwise reasonably intelligent character was given.i suppose it's possible most women have no idea how to recognize such an obvious perp or how to draw appropriate boundaries. I don't about that.
I prefer a story fraught with more nuanced characters and dilemmas. I don't regret reading this, but it's not the best Denzil novel.

a little bit of wicked fun
Revisado: 01-25-24
I like this author. she writes well and is quite good for a murder mystery author (there are soo many bad ones out there). I think I've read 5 of her books and thus far, this is in the top 2. And she's PROLIFIC! So you're in luck if you enjoy reading her. Loads of free books by her are included in your Audible subscription.
every one of her books deals with feminist issues in a sympathetic way. so some of them are completely serious and quite heavy all the way through. despite their differences, every storyline has been engaging, but this one--and my other favorite of hers--wish I could remember the name of it--are sprinkled with a bit of wicked fun and spicy twists. and this one has morally questionable characters you can heartily root for. so that's always fun!
I'm glad I found this author on here!

Very helpful information
Revisado: 01-07-24
Who knows who has the best information. But mindy seems to want to help. many of her cutedxand therapies are very expensive, but so are everyone else's.
I started researching menopause a couple years ago and there's so much expensive and contradictory information out there, I just threw it all out. I did manage to start intermittent fasting (IF) at a time when affecting change just seemed completely beyond me. I started with a free app called Simple or something free and after almost 2 years of IF, I feel much better, but not in top form by any means.
I'm now ready to explore the rabbit hole again. Dr Mindy is a great proponent of IF, so she drew me in on YouTube. Her work and books helped me get back on the horse and sally forth into doing what I can do.

These books are so good.
Revisado: 09-10-22
I'm so happy she writes such long books. I've been trying to read different series and struggled with such bad writing, woefully written characters and disjointed stories. I wish Ms. Rowling would write more frequently. It's so fricken satisfying to sit down with any Cormoran Strike book. It's like Christmas no matter the season.
The characters are multifaceted, fun, intelligent, and idiotic at times (like all smart folk--like everyone, really) to spice things up. The dialog is top notch. The sexuality of the main characters is not insipid, but real and complex, not a performance by the characters or author. Thank God!
This is the least gruesome of the Strike books so far which means I might even be able to read it again years from now.
She writes clearly and engagingly about the horrors of misogyny and cancel culture.
It's sad but I'm just so thankful for a well written book, by a sane and intelligent mind. I just wish there were more good satisfying well written books out there. I've read so much dreck lately that hasn't been Wirth finishing.

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Brilliant!
Revisado: 03-13-21
I love the spiritual/practical balance of this book.
Very satisfying read.
I'm a first time dog owner, having adopted a 3 yo rescue, Sirius, just two months ago.
As you can imagine, Sirius had some frustrating behaviors. We started training with the all-positive "Sexier Than a Squirrel" program by Tom & Lauren of Absolute Dogs. I'm glad we started there. Tom and Lauren are absolutely brilliant, really genius--maybe the most effective all-positive trainers out there. (Their techniques of using ALL the dog's food for training, ditching walks--but not excerise--if walks aren't working, saved my sanity. Also, tossing a kibble at guests' feet upon meeting them, then recalling dog to me and giving him more kibbles and back and forth for a couple minutes calms him down enough so that he doesn't jump on new people.)
Despite everything good about Absolute Dogs' version of all-positive, their methods were not moving fast enough for me and Sirius. I wasn't enjoying my exhausting, obnoxious dog very much. He wasn't enjoying being crated so much of the time because he could not be left alone for more than a minute and he really wanted to be well behaved enough to function on walks. His happy behavior was to jump on people, then bite hands and forearms. He's not aggressive (though that's what his family claimed when they relinquished him to the shelter). He doesn't snarl or growl and almost never barks. But he bites when happy and sometimes when frustrated or not trusting. He's a very cheerful and positive fellow, though. He's good with other dogs.
I never totally bought into all-positive dogma. I knee Sirius in the chest when he jumps on me, which doesn't happen much anymore. I even bopped him with a snow shovel when I was shoveling the path and Sirius was going nuts in the snow, routing, leaping and twirling. I was laughing at his antics when he noticed me and ran across the yard at me. He attacked me--all in good fun according to him. He's 50 pounds of Tasmanian devil (a bull terrier/Xolo mix). Freakishly strong, solid muscle and terrifying. He didn't mind the shovel bops or the yelling. He thought I was playing. I finally bopped my way past him and ran up on the porch beyond the reach of his tether to avoid my bloodshed and so we could both calm down. All-positive be damned. If I can help it, I'm not going to let my dog bloody me or anyone else. And from what I was told, he'd drawn plenty of blood in the past.
I train calmly and properly with him several times a day, but grab what I can in his freak-out moments as needed.
About 3 weeks ago, I got the Goldberg/New Skete Monks e-collar book, and a Mini Educator. It took us a couple weeks and some frustrated, tearful moments to get to day 7 on that book's training schedule, but a few days ago, once we brought the training outside, things started moving rapidly in the right direction.
The past two days, through using the techniques in tge e-collar book, SIRIUS AND I HAVE BEEN ON 3 VERY PLEASANT, INVIGORATING WALKS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. He gets it now. He heels. He follows and he's listening to me quite a bit. This is a dog who either had his nose on the ground, insistently sniffing everything, or was pulling me down the sidewalk, putting my spine out of alignment. And I'm a big strong person.
As a first time dog owner, I'm so grateful for the "Art of Training Your Dog" book.
With all the contradictory info out there, I really needed the step by step, precise instructions and lesson plans that book offers. This book is an inspiring compliment to that training manual type book.
Yesterday, I started this "Let Dogs Be Dogs" audio book and just finished it now. It's a wonderful book, very useful and inspiring. I'm so excited to start the fetch training when our schedule allows!
I'm grateful for all the dog teachers I've come across in the past two months, especially Marc Goldberg & the monks of New Skete, Absolute Dogs, and Cesar Milan. I don't think anyone has the last word, but as I fly by the seat of my pants with my rapidly rehabilitating dog, Im so happy for the expertise expressed in this book. books are so helpful to me and my dog. We're really beginning to appreciate eachother.😊❤️🐶

I really enjoyed this book
Revisado: 03-12-21
Not a comprehensive training manual, but an enjoyable audio read while I was out and about with my 3 yo rescue pup, Sirius, who I've been training for almost two months now. I'm a first-time dog owner.
I like to hear different points of view. I started training my bitey, though non-aggressive dog with Absolute Dogs' "Sexier Than a Squirrel" all-positive online training and though it was a great way to start and Tom and Laurel are brilliant, things were not moving fast enough for our pack and the majority of the online "support" community was viciously judge-y and anything but positive when I posted a request for help.
I'm now doing the Monks of Skete e-collar training with a little input from Larry Krohn. The Monks offer a comprehensive training manual perfect for a first time dog owner and/or a first time e-collar user, on how to gently train your dog using a high quality e collar.
The all-positive camp, i.e.: Absolute Dogs and the like, seem to not believe in pack theory anymore, but as a lifelong cat person, The Monks of New Skete and Cesar Milan's pack notions are really helping me sink into a relationship with my dog. They're NOT cats and I'm having to become a pack leader in ways that had never occurred to me as useful before my dog ownership.
The "all-positive" training tends to be positively hyper as well, with so much focus on fast games and hyper happiness. It was somewhat counterproductive for my 3 yo rescue who's "happy behavior" was to start jumping on people and then biting them every time he got a bit excited.
I've started doing a version of Cesar's pshhht. I say sssst and my pushy shovey bully dog gives me space. It also mimics my cat's hiss, so it's teaching my darling cretin manners toward the kitties as well.
No one has the last word here. All the teachers I mention are brilliant, including Cesar, and I'm happy to have access to so much good information.
