Historia
Lily isn’t exactly thrilled with her arrival in the Afterlife, but what awaits her there is more fantastical than she ever could have imagined: Deities wait in line at the coffee shop. Fae flit between realms. Souls find ways to make death a beginning. As she explores the many corners of the Afterlife, Lily finds herself surprisingly drawn to a place most people would avoid at all costs: Hell. Armed with years of customer service experience and pent-up sarcasm, Lily carves a job out for herself amongst Hell’s demons, sending souls to their rightful circles with more than a hint of sass.

Hell’s Belles!!!
Revisado: 04-10-25
I’ve been following SeaYaLater on TikTok for years; being able to hear this book brought depth to the vignettes I’ve loved. I did not expect to like this book as much as I did, I did not expect to be moved to tears. Cannot wait for the next book because there is way more story left to explore.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Such a poignant story
Revisado: 11-08-23
I did not expect to like this as much as I did. Totally involved in all characters—a delight to “read.”

HelpfulIn multiple ways
Revisado: 08-01-18
As a person who is in the process of going blind, hearing this book of hope, encouragement, and open vulnerability was mind- and heart-opening. What I did not expect was learning a new way of approaching life in relationship to others. This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it for anybody stuck and looking for a practical and sincere way to move forward.

Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

Harmonica is over the top
Revisado: 05-25-18
The narrator does a decent job of imitating Henry Fonda (if you are familiar with the film version) but a bit weak on the other characters. There is harmonica music between the chapters, though, that is downright irritating. Great book, though; haunting images of Dustbowl Refugees.
