Historia
Van Dorn is 18 and running solo, dodging the bloodthirsty hordes and militias that have emerged since the country went haywire. His dead father's voice rings in his head as Van Dorn sets his sights not just on survival but also on an old-fashioned system of justice. Meanwhile, a leader has risen among the gangs - and around him swirls the cast of brawlers from Donnybrook, with their own brutal sense of right and wrong, of loyalty and justice through strength. This is not the distant post-apocalyptic future - this is tomorrow, in a world Bill has already introduced us to.

No fun violence porn
Revisado: 06-23-21
Unlike other books of his I have read, this drudge was nothing more than a litany of situations, violent and relentlessly ugly, without a smidge of humor or cleverness to offset the misery. I just couldn't go on after getting through the first half.

Historia
As the dominant species on Earth, humans have made astonishing progress since our ancestors came down from the trees. But how did the descendants of small primates manage to walk upright, become top predators, and populate the world? How were humans able to develop civilizations and produce a globalized economy? Now, in The Age of Wood, Roland Ennos shows for the first time that the key to our success has been our relationship with wood.

The anthropology of wood!
Revisado: 02-26-21
A great treatise on wood, making me rethink the stone age, iron age, etc. Powerfully and interestingly backed up by quantification and sources. Highly recommended. I wooden kid you haha.

Historia
In September 1969, a fumbling, cranky old church deacon known as Sportcoat shuffles into the courtyard of the Cause Houses housing project in south Brooklyn, pulls a .38 from his pocket, and, in front of everybody, shoots the project's drug dealer at point-blank range. The reasons for this desperate burst of violence and the consequences that spring from it lie at the heart of Deacon King Kong, James McBride's funny, moving novel and his first since his National Book Award-winning The Good Lord Bird.

Incredibly vivid narration of McBride’s branching story. Fun from start to finish. I couldn’t wait to listen each day.

Historia
1963, Mexico, Maine. The Wood family is much like its close, Catholic, immigrant neighbors, all dependent on a father's wages from the Oxford Paper Company. Until the sudden death of Dad, when Mum and the four closely connected Wood girls are set adrift. Funny and to-the-bone moving, When We Were the Kennedys is the story of how this family saves itself, at first by depending on Father Bob, Mum's youngest brother, a charismatic Catholic priest who feels his new responsibilities deeply.

The magic of everyday life
Revisado: 12-31-20
The author perfectly captures the many joys and heartaches of an authentic life in a mill town. She was brave in the telling and honest in the writing. Far more enjoyable than I expected, and as sweet as could be.

Historia
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

William Hurt hurts
Revisado: 12-22-20
His reading is so bad, I simply could not listen to this book! Crazy accents, odd inflection, lazy pronunciation. I wish I could have gone on, but he is horrible. I like his acting, though.
