Historia
Shaw had a breakdown, but he's getting himself back together. He has a single room, a job on a decaying London barge and an on-off affair with a doctor's daughter called Victoria, who claims to have seen her first corpse at age 13. It's not ideal, but it's a life. Or it would be if Shaw hadn't got himself involved in a conspiracy theory that, on dark nights by the river, seems less and less theoretical....

dull never really gets going
Revisado: 03-28-22
Lots of potential but it never really gets going. The characters are difficult to care about. They live boring lives with the pretense of the plot line to act as the hook. But since the plot doesnt develop this fails.

Historia
Vincent is the beautiful bartender at the Hotel Caiette, a five-star glass-and cedar palace on the northernmost tip of Vancouver Island. New York financier Jonathan Alkaitis owns the hotel. When he passes Vincent his card with a tip, it’s the beginning of their life together. That same day, a hooded figure scrawls a note on the windowed wall of the hotel: ‘Why don’t you swallow broken glass.’ Leon Prevant, a shipping executive for a company called Neptune Avramidis, sees the note from the hotel bar and is shaken to his core.

Its a slow meandering story with characters I couldn't really care about. There doesn't appear to be a plot just accounts of people that have a loose association with each other.

Historia
Under the streets of London there's a world most people could never even dream of: a city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, and pale girls in black velvet. Richard Mayhew is a young businessman who is about to find out more than he bargained for about this other London. A single act of kindness catapults him out of his safe and predictable life and into a world that is at once eerily familiar and yet utterly bizarre.

interesting story. would have benefited by being narrated by an actor rather than the author. the cheap audio effects distract from the story.

Bleak but so dull with it!
Revisado: 06-16-17
What disappointed you about The Road?
After 4 hours nothing really has happened. You haven't learnt about the main characters of a father and his soft whining child. In the end you dont care about them for why they are walking or were they're walking too.
Would you ever listen to anything by Cormac McCarthy again?
Probably not
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes slow and dull
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
diappoinment

Historia
In 1942, Lawrence Pritchard Waterhouse - mathematical genius and young Captain in the US Navy - is assigned to detachment 2702. It is an outfit so secret that only a handful of people know it exists, and some of those people have names like Churchill and Roosevelt. The mission of Watrehouse and Detachment 2702 - commanded by Marine Raider Bobby Shaftoe - is to keep the Nazis ignorant of the fact that Allied Intelligence has cracked the enemy's fabled Enigma code. In the present, Waterhouse's crypto-hacker grandson, Randy, is attempting to create a "data haven" in Southeast Asia....

Runs out of steam
Revisado: 03-28-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The ending! By the end book its clear that Neal Stephenson has run out of ideas and tries very unconvincingly to end it early.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The cryptographic detail is good but now dated.
What about William Dufris’s performance did you like?
Good clear dictions
Any additional comments?
Its too long and would have been better if the story had been simplified and a more comping ending to the plot constructed. Ending feels very rushed.

Historia
When the world was young, and its name was Faerie, the power of magic ruled - and the Elfstones warded the race of Elves and their lands, keeping evil at bay. But when an Elven girl fell hopelessly in love with a Darkling boy of the Void, he carried away more than her heart. Thousands of years later, tumultuous times are upon the world now known as the Four Lands. Users of magic are in conflict with proponents of science. Elves have distanced their society from the other races. The Druid order is threatened.

Good story but poor sound
Revisado: 03-28-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, gripping story with some nice twists to the plot. However, when the reader encounters words end in s there is horrible hissing noise. It seams to be how it was recorded which has increased sibilance errors in the audio.
What three words best describe Rosalyn Landor’s voice?
Good tone however, the over recording of s sounds is a real distraction.
Any additional comments?
Pity about the recording problems. I've brought book two in the series hopefully it will be better.
