Indulgent personal family experience
Revisado: 08-15-24
Better enjoyed as a Christmas family newsletter. Writings juvenile and accounts of a man’s life supposedly framed within bipolar. Neither enlightening nor useful. Sigh.

Historia
We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at baby showers and work events, brunch and book club, graduations and funerals. Yet no one ever questions alcohol’s ubiquity—in fact, the only thing ever questioned is why someone doesn’t drink. It is a qualifier for belonging and if you don’t imbibe, you are considered an anomaly. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some kind of magic elixir, though it is anything but.

Life changing
Revisado: 02-12-24
While I don't identify in any way with the author ... I hope to embrace so much of her thought process. Taking nothing for granted and not accepting conventional paths to sobriety empowers the reader to consider one's entire environment's influence over addiction. The science of alcohol's effect on one's body provides a strong basis for one to step forward. The emotional and relationship sections are also very realistic in their offerings ... in particular, there's a part where Holly advises ... when your choice is guilt or resentment, choose guilt. If you're looking for an easy way, sugar-coating ... this isn't your read. She addresses that many times all choices are bad, but some are less worse than others and accepting things we can't change. Great read - recommded to several friends!

Halfway through still waiting ...
Revisado: 02-12-24
I don't think I can slog through the rest of this thing ... the author just endlessly cites anecdotes of people who struggle for identity relevance in old age ... plenty of words, studies ... but still waiting to hear him give some strategies, which I bought the book for ...

Historia
Thomas Szasz's classic book revolutionized thinking about the nature of the psychiatric profession and the moral implications of its practices. By diagnosing unwanted behavior as mental illness, psychiatrists, Szasz argues, absolve individuals of responsibility for their actions and instead blame their alleged illness. He also critiques Freudian psychology as a pseudoscience and warns against the dangerous overreach of psychiatry into all aspects of modern life.

Rambling, useless waste of words
Revisado: 02-07-24
Never gets to a point. Worst waste of time ever. I never got any idea of what this pile of words is trying to communicate. NY phone book more interesting.
