Historia
When an intricate old map is found stuffed into the walls of the bistro in Three Pines, it at first seems no more than a curiosity. But the closer the villagers look, the stranger it becomes. Given to Armand Gamache as a gift the first day of his new job, the map eventually leads him to shattering secrets. To an old friend and older adversary. It leads the former Chief of Homicide for the Sûreté du Québec to places even he is afraid to go. But must. And there he finds four young cadets in the Sûreté academy, and a dead professor. And, with the body, a copy of the old, odd map.

Bravo Robert Bathurst
Revisado: 02-23-24
Having listened to Ralph Cosham narrate the first ten books of this terrific series, I couldn’t bear the idea of someone new speaking as Inspector Gaumache so I decided to not continue. After all Inspector Gaumache had retired so it was perfect timing.
Well, as I was looking for a new book to listen to, I reluctantly downloaded Book 11 to give the new narrator a chance. It was a little painful for me to accept this new voice, but I loved the book and he was pretty good so I went on to “A Great Reckoning”.
Oh, I’m so happy to say that this narration is superb. Robert Bathurst has found each voice but especially he is now Inspector Gaumache and I’m back in Three Pines heaven. Thank you Louise Penny for finding the perfect replacement for beloved Ralph Cosham.
Oh and the story is terrific too (as always)!

When listeners last heard Maisie Dobbs, it was 1938, and the world was on the brink of war. Maisie herself was on a dangerous mission inside Nazi Germany, where she encountered an old enemy and the Führer himself. In In This Grave Hour, a year has passed, and Maisie is back home in England - yet neither she nor her nation is safe. Britain has just declared war on Germany and is mobilizing for the devastating battle ahead.

It Just Gets Better and Better!
Revisado: 11-19-23
I have listened to all of the Maisie Dobbs books so far. I can’t believe my luck in discovering this audio book series. Years ago I heard a review on NPR that began “Prepare to Be Amazed” and that introduced me to the first book.
As age began to overtake my eyesight and reading small print put me to sleep, I saw the audio versions on Audible and decided to once again give it a go.
Oh I am so happy to be on this journey with Maisie Dobbs. “In This Grave Hour” is my favorite. And when Richard Stratton comes back into her life, I actually got a “rush.” I now have all of the rest of the series in my queue.
Don’t hesitate to start this series.

Total Delight
Revisado: 01-06-20
Most of us know the story of Peter Pan and I would have missed out listening to this delightful performance had I not heard the recommendation by a famous celebrity quite a while ago. I was looking for something that would be quick listening after having listened to a particularly long audiobook. I’m a youthful 78 and this truly is a story for all ages. Christopher Cazenove did a wonderful job.

Historia
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

Wonderful Audiobook!
Revisado: 02-08-19
While searching for my next audiobook, I discovered "Once Upon a River" simply because I wanted to hear a book read by Juliet Stevenson. What an enjoyable experience to hear this clever tale read in so many voices and all done by Miss Stevenson! I don't want it to end. How does she do it? I know she's an acclaimed actress and I shouldn't be surprised how amazing she is in her reading of this book! I must run...I'm almost at the end and I'm prolonging it! Enjoy!!
