Historia
Shrubley, the Hero Adventurer, has vanquished the serpentii threat. Everything he ever wanted is within his twiggy grasp: fame, fortune, adoration, and the love of the people who had once shunned him for being a monster. But Shrubley is an adventurer at heart. Along with his monstrous friends, Cal, Slyrox, and Smudge, Shrubley embarks on a long journey to the fabled monster city of Pandaemonium. Guided by Countess Haalften, Shrubley seeks to master his Sage Knight essence healing powers even as vampyrs, monsters, and bandits ambush the party along the way.

Still fun, but still unoriginal
Revisado: 02-06-25
I won't say it's a bad audiobook (narrator did a fabulous job as usual), but the authors are still lifting ideas and characters wholesale from existing works. Resident Evil, Final Fantasy 14, Kirby, Majora's Mask... come on guys, you're better than that.

Historia
As a monster, Shrubley is forbidden from joining the adventurers guild. In a world where essence artists rank up in power and most monsters are feral beasts, Shrubley is among the weakest of creatures and is treated as an outcast. With curiosity essence bound to his spirit, Shrubley might be weak, but he's intelligent and determined. Against all the odds, he discovers a loophole from the Druid that gave him life—but there's a deadly catch. For a chance of ever being accepted as a true adventurer, he must challenge an otherworldly realm threatening to consume everything.

Fun, but terribly original
Revisado: 02-01-25
The author put together a fun, light-hearted story, but basically stole the concepts behind every major character from video games or movies.

Historia
Kril Granger has gathered a good crew and managed to finish a profitable job. But things are a little too hot in their usual regions, so it's time to pick up stakes and head coreward. Along the way, they'll be passing through the dark spaces of the galaxy and turning up threats ranging from overprotective AIs to invasive nano-using overlords. All this while dealing with a mixed, quarrelsome crew that would rather die than give up their secrets. It's a hard life being a scrapper. It's a harder death if they get it wrong...

Telling This Story So We Can Tell You the Next One
Revisado: 04-29-24
Pretty much what it says on the title. Lots of fleshing out of character for the crew, but it felt very much like a interim to lead us into a better version the next novel in the series. Lots of Firefly-esque space opera adventure, it was quite enjoyable. My only gripes were the cliffhanger(s?) and the oddly frequent variations of the narrator's volume. For whatever reason he was often quiet-loud-quiet-loud, but excellent otherwise. Might have been a technical issue, not sure.

Historia
When a salvage job on an old battlefield goes awry, Kril's left with no crew, no food, a suspiciously absent client, and far too many enemies. Fortunately, it's a big universe, and he's got a fast ship and the best pilot in twenty light-years to watch his back. His journey to keep 'er flying and get a crew back together will take him from rescue operations in collapsing freighters to fighting dinosaurs in the sewage canals of pirate paradises and to points beyond. The odds are stacked against him, but Kril keeps it simple.

Historia
A paladin, an assassin, a forger, and a scholar ride out of town. It's not the start of a joke, but rather an espionage mission with deadly serious stakes. T. Kingfisher's new novel begins the tale of a murderous band of criminals (and a scholar), thrown together in an attempt to unravel the secret of the Clockwork Boys, mechanical soldiers from a neighboring kingdom that promise ruin to the Dowager's city.

Good Entry for a Longer Series
Revisado: 01-12-24
Excellent narration, good hook for future story arcs. My only gripes are that a) there isn't a great deal of character development for a novel that ostensibly is focused on its characters and b) you are forced to listen to a lot of internal monologuing over 2 characters' (lack of) lovelife. I didn't sign up for a romance novel in the first place, and I got pretty tired of hearing will he/won't he diatribes over and over and over.

Historia
Hi, how are you? Yes, I am talking to you, the reader of this book's description. Okay, I get it, fourth-wall breaking is overdone. Get over it. This book, Villains Rule, is a fantasy action-comedy which you have to hear. Not because it redefines the genre, far from it. But rather for what it contains. A villain's tale. How often do you get to listen to a story where the villain is the protagonist? No, not an anti-hero, or a brooding monster, nor a hero thinly disguised as a villain. And not evil. If you want evil, take that nonsense to therapy.

Excellent Story, Even better Narration
Revisado: 12-22-23
Honestly the narrator was what really made me enjoy this book the most - something like an auditory lovechild of Mr Smith from the Matrix and the host of the Twilight Zone. It was love at first monologue.
The biggest plot twist is also quite interesting. It's not quite as mind-blowing as, say, the 6th Sense, but I appreciated how the author disguised it as comedy relief up until the big reveal.
Highly recommend!

Historia
The Galactic Consensus arrived on ships as large as skyscrapers, crafted from glittering alloys that no human scientist could even begin to understand. They followed the trail of century-old television transmissions to welcome us into the galactic community...only to recoil in horror at what they found. They concluded that humans were unfit to be trusted with the advanced technologies that member-states of the Consensus freely traded with each other.

The apocalypse will be televised! You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Being stuck with her prize-winning show cat. And you know what’s worse than that? Join Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive the end of the world—or just get to the next level—in a video game–like, trap-filled fantasy dungeon.

...The general plot managed to avoid the tidal wave of garbage self-inserting wish-fufillment that authors like to call "litrpg" to sell their fanfiction to more of us poor, ignorant shmucks.
Without spoiling things: yes the book lives up to its summary. No, the MC is not the village idiot OR the try-hard edgelord OR the snowflake chosen one. Or even a teenager, for once. Honorary mentions for managing to portray even a sliver of how heartbreaking a regularly-scheduled apocalypse would really be... but also remembering all the reasons why we all watch way too many cat videos.
And kudos as usual to Jeff and Annie for their stellar voice acting. You guys had way too much fun with the credits, haha.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.
