Historia
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming.

Historia
Once, Tomas Piety looked after his men, body and soul, as best he could. Then those who ran his country decided his dark talents would better serve in the corridors of power. Crushed by the power of the Queen's Men and with the Skanian menace rising once more on the streets of Ellinburg, Tomas Piety is forced to turn to old friends, old debts and untrustworthy alliances. Meanwhile in the capital city of Dannsburg, Dieter Vogel is beginning to wonder if the horror he has unleashed in the Martyr's Disciples might be getting out of control.

Historia
Tomas Piety has everything he ever wanted. In public he's a wealthy, highly respected businessman, happily married to a beautiful woman and Governor of his home city of Ellinburg. In private, he's no longer a gang lord but one of the Queen's Men, invisible and officially non-existent, working in secret to protect his country.

Peaky Blinders meets a Joe Abercrombie story. Gritty characters, language, and worlds with a combination of political intrigue, humor, and action. The narration was better at 1.2X for me. Otherwise, absolutely perfect fun! Can’t wait for book 4.

Historia
Autumn 1192. With Jerusalem still in the Saracens' hands, and a peace treaty agreed with their leader Saladin, Richard the Lionheart is free at last to travel back to his strife-ridden kingdom. By his side at every turn is the loyal knight Ferdia, also known as Rufus. Together they will face not just Richard's archenemy Philippe Capet of France, but also the king's treacherous younger brother, John.

Fun series featuring The Lionheart
Revisado: 07-03-23
I didn’t know much about King Richard the Lionheart, so I found this series to be both fun and educational. The narration was very good and the main character (the King’s knight) was likable and relatable. A strong recommendation for fans of Bernard Cornwell and the like.

Historia
July 1346. Ten men land on the beaches of Normandy. They call themselves the Essex Dogs: an unruly platoon of archers and men-at-arms led by a battle-scarred captain whose best days are behind him. The fight for the throne of the largest kingdom in Western Europe has begun. Heading ever deeper into enemy territory toward Crécy, this band of brothers knows they are off to fight a battle that will forge nations, and shape the very fabric of human lives. But first they must survive a bloody war in which rules are abandoned and chivalry itself is slaughtered.

Amazing story with fantastic narration
Revisado: 02-26-23
As a huge fan of historical fiction, I loved this new arrival. Dan Jones is a beast, but I think this is his best work. It takes a chapter or two, then he hits his stride and you don’t want to stop. Raw, engaging, great characters. The Scotsman was my favorite. A sequel is definitely on the way. Fantastic narration as well. Perfect for the story.

The absolute best
Revisado: 12-07-22
I’ve read Pillars twice before, but this was my first time listening on audio. It remains as thrilling and memorable as ever. Historical fiction at its best, with deeply complex characters, political intrigue, and a perfect balance of good and bad and all the grey areas that make the story feel real … like modern life. It’s my personal favorite in all genres. And in another couple years, I’ll read it again.

Historia
They say Black Dow's killed more men than winter and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand smiling by while he claws his way any higher. The orders have been given, and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them.

Great stories and amazing audible
Revisado: 06-24-22
This series of books has been an absolute delight. I read the books and listen to the audio simultaneously because the voices are pure gold. I started that way with book 1 and have continued through book 5. I’m a historical fiction guy who doesn’t typically enjoy fantasy. This series has changed my opinion of the genre.

Historia
Hugh of Singleton, fourth son of a minor knight, has been educated as a clerk, usually a prelude to taking holy orders. However, feeling no certain calling despite a lively faith, he turns to the profession of surgeon, training in Paris and then hanging out his sign in Oxford. A local lord asks him to track the killer of a young woman whose bones have been found in the castle cesspit. She is identified as the impetuous missing daughter of a local blacksmith, and her young man, whom she had provoked very publicly, is in due course arrested and sentenced at the Oxford assizes.

Historia
In 1508, despite strong advice to the contrary, the powerful Pope Julius II commissioned Michelangelo Buonarroti to paint the ceiling of the newly restored Sistine Chapel in Rome. During the four extraordinary years that Michelangelo spent laboring over the ceiling, power politics and personal rivalries swirled around him. He battled ill health, financial and family difficulties, inadequate knowledge of the art of fresco, and the Pope's impatience - a history that is more compelling than most novels.

Set in Italy during World War II, this is the story of the incomparable, malingering bombardier Yossarian, a hero who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy - it is his own army, which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to excuse himself from the perilous missions he's assigned, he'll be in violation of Catch-22.

Seriously funny; and sadly serious. Never more relevant than now. A take on human nature, government, private enterprise and … survival. All in a “Who’s on First” kinda charm and wit. Remarkable narration!
