Love and hope often arrive in the strangest places and in the strangest ways. During his tour of duty in Iraq, Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman of the U.S. Marines endured the emotional stress common for those involved in bloody battles for freedom. Although the rules forbid pets, Kopelman and his comrades adopted an abandoned puppy left behind after the battle for Fallujah. The dog (named Lava) befriended the Marines and journalists, and was eventually smuggled out of Iraq.

I will add my concurrence to the previous review. My own pampered and lucky dog got really long walks while I listened to this story because I hated to leave my iPod.
An amazing look at real feelings and experiences of our soldiers in Iraq and the power of our 4-legged friends to keep us human against the odds.

Eloquent and captivating

We just listened to the last chapter today. I am very glad that we chose to listen to this book. The author's narration gave it life in a way that I doubt printed words could capture. Enhanced with interview/snapshots of those he encountered. It was so completely captivating that we had difficulty "putting it down" when we needed to.
My husband has lived in Alaska and we happened to visit during some of the time Mr. Jenkins was there. Listening to this book brought back the awe and magic I felt seeing the landscapes and experiencing the height of winter in a part of our country that is completely unique.

Variety, but not timely

Would be great, if on time

Morning Edition has long been my favorite source of morning news. I do not always get to listen to our local broadcast so I had hoped this would allow me to stay up to date. However, I should have heeded the comments of others regarding timeliness of posting this program. Late morning, west coast time is so late that frequently I am not able to listen to it before the afternoon news programs are broadcast. Consequently, I would not choose to renew this subscription until I know this flaw has been remedied.
