Historia
Celeste Mason is the Pinterest stay-at-home supermom of other mothers’ nightmares. Despite her all-organic, SunButter-loving, free-range kids, her immaculate home, and her volunteering awards, she still has time to relax with a nice glass of pinot at the end of the day. The only thing that ruins it all is her workaholic, career-obsessed neighbor, who makes no secret of what she thinks of Celeste’s life choices every chance she gets.

Historia
On an isolated Texas ranch, Dr. Lucy cares for abandoned animals. The solitude allows her to avoid the people and places that remind her of the past. Not that any of the townsfolk care. In 1959, no one is interested in a woman doctor. Nor are they welcoming Calvin and Justin Bell, a newly arrived African American father and son.

liked the story; narrators were great until Dr. Lucy's voice changed with the male narrator. that was a little annoying.

Historia
For decades, the women in Meggie O’Rourke’s family have run Lace, Satin, and Baubles, a lingerie business that specializes in creations as exquisitely pretty as they are practical. The dynamic in Meggie’s family, however, is perpetually dysfunctional. In fact, if Meggie weren’t being summoned back to Portland, Oregon, by her grandmother, she’d be inclined to stay away all together. Since her husband’s death a year ago, Meggie’s emotions have been in constant flux, and so has her career as a documentary filmmaker. Finding ways to keep the family business afloat - and dealing with her squabbling sister and cousin - will at least give her a temporary focus.

Couldn't listen!
Revisado: 08-07-13
I couldn't get past the second hour. I found the voice angry and sarcastic, which is how it was written, I assume. But I found it irritating and not in any way enjoyable or deep. Maybe someone who could listen longer has more to say.

Historia
Aminata Diallo is the beguiling heroine of Lawrence Hill's Someone Knows My Name. In it, Hill exquisitely imagines the tale of an 18th-century woman's life, spanning six decades and three continents. The fascinating story that Hill tells is a work of the soul and the imagination. Aminata is a character who will stir listeners, from her kidnapping from Africa through her journeys back and forth across the ocean.

Amazing read!
Revisado: 08-06-13
I don't usually write reviews. This book was terribly difficult and, at the same time, riveting and important. The narrator, Adenrele Ojo, constructed dialects, male/female voices, emoiton and honesty. This is one of the best, if not the best, I've listened to on Audible. I didn't want to listen to the first third, almost quit becaue it was so hard, but I invite you to keep listening. There is redemption, but it still isn't enough in today's world.

All I want to say is that it was a difficult book to listen to but so very, very important.
Wonderful development of characters - frustrating not to be able to intervene.
Narrators brought it alive.

Historia
A mesmerizing, moving, and elegantly written debut novel, The Language of Flowers beautifully weaves past and present, creating a vivid portrait of an unforgettable woman whose gift for flowers helps her change the lives of others even as she struggles to overcome her own troubled past. The Victorian language of flowers was used to convey romantic expressions: honeysuckle for devotion, asters for patience, and red roses for love. But for Victoria Jones, it's been more useful in communicating grief, mistrust, and solitude.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-16-12
What disappointed you about The Big Rock Candy Mountain?
I guess this is a good book for an older guy. I was impatient with the life of the times - the lead character trying to be such a "man." I understand his frustrations but was too much for me. I didn't enjoy the descriptions of Bruce's trappings and just quit listening when the car wouldn't start. Just not my book.
What didn’t you like about Mark Bramhall’s performance?
Droning voice put me to sleep.
