C. S. Lewis does it again
Revisado: 12-31-24
Being new to Christianity I’ve only been reading C. S Lewis for the past 5 years. I’ve known about Narnia and my boys have all read it, but I have stuck with his apologetics.
The Great Divorce being my first foray into his allegorical works - which I loved.
I was rather skeptical about Out of The Silent Planet and put off listening to it for quite a long time after purchasing… but once I started (a couple of days ago) I couldn’t put down, or rather couldn’t pause it.
It’s a wonderful book, beautiful prose and an awe inspiring allegory on biblical theology. I’ve already got the other 2 in the series, and can’t wait to listen in to the further adventure of this great Philologist.
Christ is King!

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

When is a sequel not a sequel?
Revisado: 08-10-15
Excellent follow up to the brilliant piece of sci-fi Lovecraftian piece that was 14.
I got thru both this week.
Literary found reasons to drive and be away from my family so I could keep visiting the wonderful world inside Cline's head.
Can't wait for his next outing

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Still the best!
Revisado: 05-20-15
Having read the book about a half a dozen times, this is my companion for life. More than just a master class in mythology, Joe Campbell is a master in class. He sets out to demystify religions and its symbol and turns a study that may get you ever closer to ones spirituality. His life's pursuit of truth and meaning, here distilled, is as engaging as it is "magical". If the Hero has indeed a Thousand Faces, Mr. Campbell's is most definitely amongst them.

... For all humanity really.
Nothing different than what I've come to expect from Sir Robinson.
Narrated brilliantly.
If I have any spiritual practice at all. I f I need to name my religion - I'd say the pursuit of the element in myself my kids and all who I may be able to reach is my "religious experience"

"No" is sometimes the hardest word to say. It's also the most necessary. How many times have you heard yourself saying yes to the wrong things - overwhelming requests, bad relationships, time-consuming obligations? How often have you wished you could summon the power to turn them down? This program will help you take back your power by showing that a well-placed "No" can not only save you time and trouble, it can save your life.

Good content subpar narration
Revisado: 01-19-15
It's a good book for new beginnings.
There's Good guidance in it.
And both authors seem very well intentioned.
The words do seem shallow at times. Which is fine. As it feels more like coming from a peer rather than a "master" - not a bad thing in "my book". However there are moments where it feels less than compelling. There's still plenty of "ego" involved in some of their remarks. Some pedantic figures of speech and adjectives makes it for too much of a corner store conversation on the topic rather than a book on it.
I love their banter and the naturalistic approach to the recording. That works for me and makes it for a "on the level" approach to the practices described in it.
Even though Claudia is heavily accented I feel she's much closer to the subject matter than James. James comes off a but aggressive a bit sour and pained in his voice.
Overall though it makes for a very good first person(s) account of people still on the path to growth and their sharing, although repetitive and perhaps "been there done that" to some is very useful.
I'd recommend this audio to anyone looking to start a path of self realization and growth.
