Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Glad I took a chance
Revisado: 11-07-24
I had several people warn me that this book was overrated, irritating, not well written. I am glad to say that I DIDNT listen to them! I don't remember ever holding my breath, laughing, crying, mourning, giggling, hating, cheering, falling in love, and more at a book before. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and am eager to start Iron Flame next.
If you want a book to immerse yourself into, a new world and a new mythos to dive into, then this is most definitely one to give a listen to.

I tried
Revisado: 12-04-21
I honestly did. But with only 2 hours left, I could t handle it anymore. it was so cliche, so "mysterious", so boring. there was not enough backstory for any characters, there was not enough interaction to develop logically. The lines were stifled at some points, awkward in others, and downright boring at others. I just couldn't handle it.
the performers did good. they tried. but a lackluster book turned into a lackluster audiobook wasn't going to lead to an outstanding performance.
if I could get a refund I would ask for it.

Historia
A queen now in exile as a traitor, Lara has watched Ithicana be conquered by her own father, helpless to do anything to stop the destruction. But when she learns her husband, Aren, has been captured in battle, Lara knows there is only one reason her father is keeping him alive: as bait for his traitorous daughter. And it is bait she fully intends to take. Risking her life to the Tempest Seas, Lara returns to Ithicana with a plan not only to free its king, but for liberating the Bridge Kingdom from her father’s clutches using his own weapons: the sisters whose lives she spared.

Revisado: 09-23-21
Yet another book I couldn't stop listening to! well written, well narrated, and we'll paced. it was so interesting to get the 'behind the scenes" stories. Highly recommend if you have kept up with the series; however if you are just diving in, don't get this one. it will be very confusing and you won't be able to make sense of how the world is.

I can't get enough!
Revisado: 08-14-21
Love, love LOVE it!!
the story, the flow of words, the performance, the characters, how the characters interacted, it was all great.
I think listening to this one, I have felt every possible feeling in the human experience. it was exhilarating.
Anne Bishop is an amazing writer and isn't afraid to write about unpleasant things. she isn't afraid to paint those unpleasant things in a seemingly normal way.
this book, this series, isn't for the faint of heart. murder, rape, pedophilia, bestiality, treason, drug use, political drama, and so much more.
the performance was great. I had no complaints. Mr. Sharian had great inflection, wonderful pacing, unique voices for each character, and a deep understanding of how to best bring the story to life.
My only issue I had (and it's mainly a pet peeve) was that any length of time was not named. if one chapter ended, and the next happened to take place 2 years after that, there was no mention other than an offhand comment one of the character made about the passage of time.
I don't like guessing how long between each scene was.
overall, I HIGHLY recommend this book. it's the second one in the series, and I'm on my way to the third!

Historia
Ellen Boehm, a single mom from St. Louis, Missouri, appeared devoted to her children. But in reality, she was unequipped for motherhood, financially strapped, and desperate. Within a year of each other, her sons, ages two and four, died mysteriously, and Boehm's eight-year-old daughter then suffered a near-fatal mishap when a hair dryer fell into the girl's bath. While neighbors wondered how Boehm remained so calm through it all, Det. Sgt. Joseph Burgoon of St. Louis Homicide had darker suspicions.

Historia
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

this was alright. the story was very dry, a lot of facts. some of the lines seemed very stiff and formal and just didn't flow right. but overall it was pretty engrossing. I didn't want to stop listening. I had to finish it.
