Historia
Public speaking can be terrifying. For David Nihill, the idea of standing in front of an audience was scarier than cliff jumping into a thorny pit of spiders and mothers-in-law. Without a parachute or advanced weaponry. Something had to change.
In what doesn't sound like the best plan ever, David decided to overcome his fears by pretending to be a comedian called "Irish Dave" for one full year, crashing as many comedy clubs, festivals, and shows as possible.

Helpful, insightful and down right funny
Revisado: 04-03-24
Having recently seen and met David Nihill I was very interested in reading his book. His comedy performance, here in Chicago, was wonderful and meeting him with my family was the highlight of the year, so far.
As the founder of a 501c, No Salt Sailing, I was also interested in his book so I could improve my public speaking. The audiobook gives great tips and advice on improving such.
Just today I applied the tips and recommendations reworking my delivery on disabled veterans, myself included, and the story was better received and indeed got a laugh at the end where it should be.
Thanks David and see you next year in Chicago

Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Nothing at all! As every time before a wonderful story. Few can portray the entanglement of human and nature as Hemingway.

Historia
Large in body and spirit, Jack Aubrey throws his heavy frame up mainmasts as if he were a boy of ten. Tendentiously traditional, Aubrey spends his evenings with ship’s surgeon Stephen Maturin, a brilliant naturalist and occasional spy for the British government. In the quiet of Aubrey’s cabin, the two work on their Corelli; after numerous voyages their friendship has mellowed into a touching, if occasionally tempestuous, marriage.

Listening to the interview at the end of this book made me chuckle. As an American reader, I enjoyed the style, and that it is a novel and it is a long series, and every book is worth reading.
I enjoy the performance, the narration, and the overall story throughout the series.

Learn about the history of whaling with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series. The history of whaling is a fascinating look at international efforts to protect finite resources in international waters, otherwise known as common territory or commons. While whaling can date back to 6, 000 B.C., large-scale whaling is thought to have commenced around the 12th century, with the Basques who killed a large number of right whales in the Bay of Biscay.

Biased not a history
Revisado: 11-04-22
Sadly, this was not what I expected. I thought it was gonna be a history of wailing. Instead, it was a slanted viewpoint on the history of controlling whaling. No mention of the economic factors, the changes in technology, and even errors in its statements put forth as fact. Not worth the eight minutes it took to listen to.

Historia
Two books by Arthur Waley (1889-1966), the greatest translator of Chinese poetry. Arthur Waley was one of the first great Orientalists, bringing translations and commentaries from China and Japan to the West. This volume combines two of his books. The first book investigates how Zen Buddhism evolved to produce the kinds of artwork that it does and how the artistic practice is also a spiritual practice. The second part contains a selection of poems by China's greatest poet Li Po.

Outdated and misinformed
Revisado: 03-11-22
I was hoping to hear more about the relationship between Zen and Li Po. Sadly, the information presented was no longer accurate. Points on the different Buddhist traditions were incorrect and obviously the author held biased point of view to the inferiority of Buddhism. The explanation of the Bodhi Dharma was outdated and plain wrong.
I have seen this in older works where the western ethnographic viewpoint taints the whole work.
The reader was not the worst nor the best and if the information had been accurate I wouldn’t have returned this book.
I’d recommend avoiding this book and find a more reliable source.

Fun and entertaining
Revisado: 08-18-21
What I like about this was the weaving of many Japanese stories, folk tales and history in this story.
The one critique I have is the horrible mispronunciation of names. Every time the narrator say Yamato, Nakamura, and various others I found myself correcting it. Other than this I found the series quite enjoyable.

Historia
From the acclaimed author who enthralled the world with Exodus, Battle Cry, QB VII, Topaz, and other beloved classics of twentieth-century fiction comes a sweeping and powerful epic adventure that captures the "terrible beauty" of Ireland during its long and bloody struggle for freedom. It is the electrifying story of an idealistic young Catholic rebel and the valiant and beautiful Protestant girl who defied her heritage to join his cause. It is a tale of love and danger, of triumph at an unthinkable cost.

So much has been said about what the British did to many lands. They started in Ireland. This book does an excellent job of telling part of the tale in how Ireland broke free from British Rule.
It has been less than 100 years since the events in this book occurred.

The saga begins in tribal, pre-Christian Ireland during the reign of the fierce and mighty High Kings at Tara, with the tale of two lovers whose travails cleverly echo the ancient Celtic legend of Cuchulainn. From that stirring beginning, Rutherfurd takes the listener on a powerfully imagined journey through the centuries. Through the interlocking stories of a memorable cast of characters we see Ireland through the lens of its greatest city.
