Couldn’t stop listening
Revisado: 12-14-23
I loved this book.
Whenever I’ve heard Shaparak, I’ve really enjoyed her comedy, so thought the book might be good.
It was really good.
It’s a compelling listen, albeit with some uncomfortable-ness along the way. If you’ve ever thought you might have ADHD this would be a good starting point.
She is very frank about her experience with the behaviours associated with ADHD (and her descriptions of the shaming that goes on), which leads to the book being somewhat balm-like.
I’m going back now to re-listen to the introduction.

Historia
Previously known as the Murdaugh Murders Podcast, True Sunlight is the intersection of True Crime, journalism and systematic corruption. Celebrated journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are taking their style of reporting beyond Alex Murdaugh and his co-conspirators. We expose the truth wherever it leads giving voice to victims like Mica Francis, Sara Lynn Colucci, and Christa Gilley, while still pursuing justice for all the victims you've met so far like Stephen Smith, Dallas Stoller, and others. True Sunlight is the antithesis of True crime. True Sunlight values accuracy over "...

Complicated lives
Revisado: 09-05-21
This story is very sad but also pretty complicated and there’s a lot more to come I’m sure.
This podcast does a really good job of explaining the background and why it matters.
It’s helpful that the chapters deal with each death so that the connections become clearer, and later chapters update each part of each story. There are a lot of plates to keep spinning.
Thank you for doing such great reporting.

Historia
When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Rip-roaring tale
Revisado: 06-11-21
I was looking for a distraction from some stress and this was an excellent choice!
The story was gripping from the beginning and had plenty of twists and turns.
It takes you in one direction and then turns sharply in another direction.
There are clues but there are red herrings too. The narrator was perfect. She made the central character sound sensible but also conveyed an underlying insecurity that worked well with the narrative.
Satisfying, fast-moving escapism!
