Loved this and the narrator

I love Erdrich and this story does not disappoint! I love almost everything she writes. This book was different from the others but the characters are completely engrossing. Great underlying themes of agri-farming, pesticides, tragedies and love. The reader was very good - making the character's voices just different enough to keep us from getting confused and bringing them the life. LOVED THIS BOOK!

Otherworldly Poem

This was beautifully written - more of a poem than a novel -- though there was some character development and back stories to fill it out. I bought the book after listening to better focus on the language. I did NOT like either the narrator or editor who cut off the "s" sounds at the end of sentences. Very distracting!

Another great book by Tana French

What I like most about this book is the characters and the dialogue! This "backwoods" Irish community is a hoot of characters - each with their unique take on life and the situation. I LOVED the narrator - who brought the characters to life with their heavy brogues and picturesque language. Tana never disappoints. As soon as I'm done -- I'm anxiously waiting for her next book.

Interesting perspective on the Vietnam Time

Loved the perspective of the wives of the US military in Vietnam with a 50's perspective. Engaging story and narrator was also very good. Moving ending.

Wonderful meshing of history and fiction

Absolutely marvelous writing - sometimes like poetry. Characters and dialogue very well written. Narrator did a great job of differentiating voices. Painful depictions of war but crucial to bringing the women of the Red Cross - who knew? - to life. Unimaginable suffering and a crime that most people don't appreciate what they did. Great job of bringing this role to life! Thank you!

Learned while entertained

I absolutely loved this book - and I'm not a young person. The story was rich and I learned so much about indigenous cultures and the "stealing" of native artifacts. The characters were interesting and genuine, the plot kept moving. The narrator was very good and obviously spoke the Ojibwa language - which added a lot to the story. Can't say enough about it!

Written with great humor and pathos. Wonderfully creative. Dialogue and characters very entertaining. Some hard crime stuff too but all in all a good read!
