Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Good page turner. Just enough realism to be believable and enjoyable. I hope there is a sequel. I liked the characters.

Historia
The story of the American West is the story of a relentless quest for a precious resource: water. It is a tale of rivers diverted and dammed, of political corruptions and intrigue, of billion-dollar battles over water rights, of ecologic and economic disaster. In Cadillac Desert, Marc Reisner writes of the earliest settlers, lured by the promise of paradise, and of the ruthless tactics employed by Los Angeles politicians and business interests to ensure the city's growth. He documents the bitter rivalry between two government giants to transform the West.

Amazing Story of the American West
Revisado: 05-12-23
Knew there was an occasional water shortage in California. Didn’t know how greed and politics had twisted things so much. How bad it has gotten. Some what of a happy ending. But there is a long way to go. Hopefully nature will recover when we get our act together. This book changes the way we should think about water usage everywhere.

The bad guy was so repulsive that I was going to stop reading. Creepy is too kind a word. Disgusting repulsive even though leaves a very bad taste in one’s mouth.

Historia
We are familiar with maps that outline all 50 states. And we are also familiar with the idea that the United States is an "empire", exercising power around the world. But what about the actual territories - the islands, atolls, and archipelagos - this country has governed and inhabited? In How to Hide an Empire, author Daniel Immerwahr tells the fascinating story of the United States outside the United States. In crackling, fast-paced prose, he reveals forgotten episodes that cast American history in a new light.

Read and listen carefully
Revisado: 08-01-22
This has so much information about change and how this will impact the future. If only a tenth is correct it will make the past momentous changes feel like business as usual. Full disclosure I had to listen to it twice before I could fully appreciate its true impact. I am going to read it again in a few months. Life changing doesn’t even scratch the surface of its total impact.

Historia
Can a well-programmed machine do anything a human can - only better? Complex algorithms are buying our groceries, picking our partners, and driving our investments. They can navigate more data than a doctor or lawyer and act with greater precision. For many years we've taken solace in the notion that they can't create. But now that algorithms can learn and adapt, does the future of creativity belong to machines too?
