Historia
It’s Christmas, and for the first time in years the entire Birch family will be under one roof. Even Emma and Andrew’s elder daughter - who is usually off saving the world - will be joining them at Weyfield Hall. But Olivia, a doctor, is only coming home because she has to. She’s just returned from treating an epidemic abroad and has been told she must stay in quarantine for a week...and so too should her family. For the next seven days, the Birches are locked down, cut off from the rest of humanity, and forced into each other’s orbits.

Well paced and unique story
Revisado: 04-05-24
The narrator, while having a lovely voice, made the younger characters sound wrong. Phoebe sounded like a petulant child, while George sounded like a stodgy old man. I kept trying to hear them sounding like real people instead of how she portrayed them. While she did her best with American accents, but it bugged me when she read “XOXO” from the American sister as “kisses and hugs”. Americans say “XOXO”.
The story was refreshing; a unique situation and dilemmas, though mildly predictable. Still an enjoyable listen.

Historia
May 1959. From one side of St. Brigid's Island, the mountains of Connemara can be glimpsed on the distant mainland; from the other, the Atlantic stretches as far as the eye can see. This remote settlement, without electricity or even a harbor, has scarcely altered since its namesake saint set up a convent of stone huts centuries ago. Those who live there, including sisters Rose and Emer, are hardy and resourceful, dependent on the sea and each other for survival.

My Favorite Author does it again
Revisado: 05-12-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Lisa Carey always writes beautiful, haunting stories with just enough supernatural to keep you hooked and guessing where the story is going to go.
What about Caroline Lennon’s performance did you like?
Her accents were spot on and really brought the characters and the story itself even further to life.

Predictable plot but well written
Revisado: 07-22-16
Perhaps I have read too many missing person novels or watched too many tv shows, but I saw the plot twists coming chapters ahead of time. I found the characters compelling and well written, fleshed out to be very vivid and real. I will definitely listen to it again.
