If you’re a fan of Douglas Adams, this doesn’t disappoint!

A rip-rolling adventure through space and time, with a brief stop at the meaning of life, this continues on the journey of Arthur Dent where we left off. Although I am a fan of Martin Freeman I found some of his (terrible) American accents distracting and at times annoying, which brought the reading down for me.

Historia
In 1518, in a small town in Alsace, Frau Troffea began dancing and didn't stop. She danced until she was carried away six days later, and soon 34 more villagers joined her. Then more. In a month more than 400 people had been stricken by the mysterious dancing plague. In late-19th-century England an eccentric gentleman founded the No Nose Club in his gracious townhome - a social club for those who had lost their noses, and other body parts, to the plague of syphilis for which there was then no cure.

Delightful romp through history’s worst plagues
Revisado: 01-03-18
This is a delightful introduction to some of history’s worst plagues, with a clearly articulated message on how we should think and respond to future ones - if a simplistic one. The performance was light and made the text come alive. This is an introductory book, with some references to other texts and authors but without any real depth of analysis. At times the authors’ persona intruded on the narrative with irrelevant personal responses - that aside this is an easy and accessible read for the beginner to infectious disease history.

Historia
After a violent coup in the United States overthrows the Constitution and ushers in a new government regime, the Republic of Gilead imposes subservient roles on all women. Offred, now a Handmaid tasked with the singular role of procreation in the childless household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife, can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost everything, even her own name.

Special edition pulled out all the stops
Revisado: 12-18-17
After the frustratingly unresolved ending of the main narrative I thoroughly enjoyed the historical note (both content and performance), and essay both of which provided excellent context, and a resolution of sorts. I have discovered a new love for Margaret Atwood!

Historia
It’s clear that in today’s era of fiscal constraints and political gridlock, we can no longer turn to government alone to tackle towering social problems. What’s required is a new, more collaborative and productive economic system. The Solution Revolution brings hope - revealing just such a burgeoning new economy where players from across the spectrum of business, government, philanthropy, and social enterprise converge to solve big problems and create public value.

Good overview of an evolving field
Revisado: 02-22-16
As an introduction to emerging social citizenship it is a whirlwind tour of some of the best examples of the last decade. It introduces key terms and a sense of how each player fits into an overall eco-system. However like a lot of books in this genre it was repetitive at times and hard to get a sense of the overall narrative in between all the examples. One to the flip through and use as a reference rather than read all at once.
