I love the Forgotten Ruin series, and this new entry by Peter Nealen is one of the best!

Tension, realism, and surrealism collide for a wild ride that you can't put down.

Seriously, this is an absolute MUST read/listen.

Fun, intense, mystifying and captivating.

I have come to expect the best from Jason Anspach, and this was my first read of Doc Spears...let me just say this: I was hooked from the opening prologue about the most badass unit in the universe, especially the fact that you have to DIE before you can join. Woah!

From there, the story goes into uncharted territory. It defies genre, exceeds expectations, and SO MUCH ACTION!!!

And...George Washington? Yes, like you've never seen him before.

This is the best story I've read/listened to in a while, and that's saying something because I've consumed about 80 books in the last 12 months.

If you haven't given Tier-1000 a shot, do it now. Right now. You will be blown away, guaranteed!

So much happens, I don't want to drop spoilers, but i will say WAR! A whole lot of combat! Action scenes kept me on the edge of my seat. The story deepens and widens with the further exploration of things revealed in Book 1, answering questions and raising new ones.

I especially like the relationship between Destota and Mallory. Every husband/wife can probably relate to them, and it's really fun to listen to their dialogues back and forth.

Witty, snappy, sarcastic dialogue just the way I like it. Military types, gamer types, and anyone just looking for a fun story--you will feel right at home with this one!

I slept on this book in lieu of a few other Mil SF books, and it turns out that was a mistake.

Incredibly vivid action sequences, a mind-blowing story, and VERY memorable characters.

Literally pulls no punches.

Must-read/listen for fans of the genre!

This is the most important thing I can say about this book: it's unique.

There are a ton of references to video games, movies, books and poems, but this story is the first of its kind, or at least the first of its kind that gets it right.

A group of Army Rangers accidentally ends up in a nightmare world filled with fantasy monsters. If someone had told me that I would like it, I wouldn't have believed them. I gave it a chance because I read some of the authors' other books and liked their style. It was a good gamble, because after reading, I feel like I ate my cake and get to have it, too.

The main character shows this dark, chaotic world through an honest lens that makes his experience YOUR experience. I laughed at his coffee conundrum. I cringed during some of the most intense--and realistic, if that's possible in this new WarGate genre--battle scenes I've ever read. I did NOT cry at the end, but I almost did.

Forgotten Ruin is proof that Anspach and Cole have done something truly magical. They've properly mixed oil and water. Military SF plus Tolkien-esque Fantasy sounds like they could never work together, and until now, I thought so, too.

I'm eagerly anticipating the next book, and this entire series.
