Historia
By the spring of 1945, the once mighty Japanese fleet has been virtually destroyed, leaving Japan open to invasion. The Japanese react by dispatching hundreds of suicide bombers against the Allied fleet surrounding Okinawa. By mid-May, the Allied fleet is losing a major ship a day to murderous swarms of kamikazes streaming out of Formosa and southern Japan.

Historia
The quiet of a Texas night is shattered by the sounds of screeching brakes, crumpling metal and, most shockingly, rapid gunfire. The auto accident Jack Ryan Jr thought he witnessed turned out to be a professional hit. Jack may be too late to save the victim, but he’ll be damned if he’s going to let the hitters escape justice. He’s got just one lead—a meeting the victim was going to. When Jack shows up instead, he’s drawn into the seedy underbelly of a small Texas town and the cold case of a college student who vanished from its streets.

Worst Bentley writing yet
Revisado: 01-15-25
One of the most disjointed stories yet. Bentley has done so much damage to the Jack Jr storyline. Cheap writing. Errors (you’d think a former helicopter pilot would know it’s not a Jet Bell Ranger). The stories come together with no cohesion, just a collision with an ending that has very little to do with the rest of the story. Glad he’s done writing for this series.

The Civil War is most remembered for the grand battles that have come to define it: Gettysburg, Antietam, Shiloh, among others. However, as bestselling author Patrick K. O’Donnell reveals in The Unvanquished, a vital shadow war raged amid and away from the major battlefields that was in many ways equally consequential to the conflict’s outcome.

Very well researched.
Revisado: 11-15-24
This one really gets into the weeds. It’s not survey course. There is no skirmish too small to note here. Sometimes it’s get a little hard to follow because so many small stories come and go. The reader is a little monotone so any tense situations come off the same as a story about a journey down a road.

Historia
This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

The slowest narrator on the planet
Revisado: 10-06-24
I don’t mind speeding up a book a little to get the speech at a conversational level but this guy is unbelievably slow. It was actually a hindrance to the storyline.

Historia
Jack Ryan, Jr., would do anything for Ding Chavez. That's why Jack is currently sitting in an open-air market in Israel, helping a CIA team with a simple job. It's a cushy assignment - a trip to Israel in exchange for a couple hours of easy work, but Jack could use the downtime after his last operation. Jack is here merely as an observer, but when he hastens to help a woman and her young son, he finds himself the target of trained killers. Alone and outgunned, Jack will have to use all his skills to protect the life of the child.

Cheap story and over acted
Revisado: 09-06-24
It begins with a deus ex machina event and develops without any depth. Jack Jr should have died at least 5 times in this storyline but no. Too many chapters end with an undercooked cliffhanger. Scott Brick over does it with drama in places it’s not needed. He could make a story about getting a cup of coffee seem like the Normandy invasion. I’m only keeping up with these in case it’s better background for the other books. Bentley is an awful writer.

Historia
In the spring of 1939, a top-secret organization was founded in London: Its purpose was to plot the destruction of Hitler's war machine through spectacular acts of sabotage. The guerrilla campaign that followed was every bit as extraordinary as the six men who directed it. One of them, Cecil Clarke, was a maverick engineer who had spent the 1930s inventing futuristic caravans. Now his talents were put to more devious use: He built the dirty bomb used to assassinate Hitler's favorite, Reinhard Heydrich.

Half informative. Half axe grinding commentary. This should have been an 8 hour book. It’s sad that the main points taken away are that he only worked for anti semites and no one was ever good to come after him.

Historia
Thirty-eight years ago Robert Brown launched an upstart magazine from his basement called Soldier of Fortune, which pushed the bounds of journalism to its limits with his untamed brand of reporting - - a camera in one hand, a gun in the other, and soon thereafter he discovered that he’d established a worldwide community. His wildly popular, notorious magazine became an icon for action-seekers in the U.S. and around the world. In this long-awaited book, Brown tells his own story.

Takes a great narrator to read what amounts to an unedited stream of consciousness work. Really makes you feel like you’re sitting at the bar listening to brown tell his story.

I can’t believe he read his own book!
Revisado: 10-15-23
I almost died when I heard him starting to read his own. He’s the only narrator I have had to slow an audiobook down for.
Story was pretty good but kind of got lost a few times when he was telling about his roots in motor sports. The rally stuff just didn’t fit in. I know it’s important but given that this was a story based off a single season timeline, it was a little off base.
It is nice that it was the summary of a season from the standpoint of a single team. It could have been a broad brush but he kept it pretty tight and that told a pretty good story.
