Historia
After receiving death threats, an ex-jockey trainer friend calls Sid, a private investigator, to ask for his help, but Sid has his own problems to deal with, like recovering from surgery and saving his crumbling marriage. When his friend's stable yard is torched and the friend is found dead, Sid can only blame himself for not helping sooner. The police think it's suicide, but Sid is not convinced after his friend's terrified phone calls. With a guilty heart, Sid starts to investigate and soon finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy that cuts to the very heart of British horse racing.

Historia
Seven years ago, Miles Pussett was a steeplechase jockey, loving the rush of the race. But after an unfortunate event, he left horseracing behind and swore he would never return. Now he gets his adrenaline rush from riding headfirst down the Cresta Run, a three-quarter-mile Swiss ice chute, reaching speeds of up to eighty miles per hour. Finding himself in St Moritz during the same weekend as White Turf, when high-class horseracing takes place on the frozen lake, he gets talked into helping out with the horses. Against his better judgement, he decides to assist.

Not one of his best
Revisado: 10-31-22
Not enough mystery or action, and too much flipping back and forth of time lines.
It's not that it's a particularly bad book in it's own way, but not really in the mould of the other books.

Historia
In 1714, England's Parliament offered a huge reward to anyone whose method of measuring longitude could be proven successful. The scientific establishment--from Galileo to Sir Isaac Newton--had mapped the heavens in its certainty of a celestial answer. In stark contrast, one man, John Harrison, dared to imagine a mechanical solution--a clock that would keep precise time at sea, something no clock had been able to do on land. And the race was on....

Great story and narration
Revisado: 10-11-22
I enjoyed both the narration and the story, but mabye I'm bias as I've listened to hours of Kate narration when listening to the wheel of time series.
The book is slow paced with a fair bit of detail and interesting history.

Enjoyable to listen too but as always with this narrator a bit too slow. Put the speed up a bit and it will sound a lot better.

Good story, audio a little dodgy
Revisado: 02-12-21
Whoever did the audio for this book was not too sharp at their job - the volume goes up and down randomly as you listen. It would have been a simple fix at the editing stage to fix this.
The story is good too, they do put in an unnecessary amount of Imperial to Metric conversions though, I mean just stick to onebsystem and have done with it.. No need to convert every single measurement in the middle of sentences.

Great yarns, bad narration
Revisado: 11-10-20
The stories are enjoyable as you'd expect them to be. The Narrator must be paid by the hour because he speaks incredibly slowly. Pro top: increase the speed to 1.10 on the audibe appand it's much less painful to listen to.

I was half expecting to listen to a book narrated in French from some of the other reviews, but no.. Just some French Street names & things, so I don't know what people were complaining about.
The book itself way enjoyable but not the best she's written
