Captivating and fast paced; the characters are compelling and so well written! The narrator truly adds to the story with his many voices and singing. So much so that I am looking forward to finding any book he's narrated and listening to it next.

This is my third time through this trilogy but my first time listening to it as an audiobook. I love this take on the Robin Hood myth and that Stephen Lawhead uses his vast knowledge of Britain's history to place our hero in a setting other than Sherwood Forest. It is a darker tale of Robin Hood or Rhy Bran y Hud but no less compelling than the story most of us grew up with. My only critique is that the narrator gives certain men higher, nasal tones of voice, almost feminine in sound. That one of those men is our main character is a disappointment but not an insurmountable one. I would still recommend the series based on their own merit.

My husband and I found the show's storytelling a bit confusing and I could not imagine that a book series that got it's own show could be nearly so muddled. I began listening to this particular version thinking Rosamund Pike would do a credible job and have been blown away by the voices she gives each character! I have a whole new respect for her as an actress. My one critique is that there are parts of this book that feel derivative. One scene in particular felt as if the author had stolen the Wormtongue/Theodin storyline right from Lord of the Rings and inserted it into his own writing. I get that there's nothing new under the sun, but I was so shocked at the nearness of this account that it actually made me angry. It is nice to have a world to immerse myself in that's clean (far cleaner than the show!) and compelling, and but I hope not to find too many more of those instances as I go along.

This will have been my 3rd time through Forgotten God but my first time listening to it. I loved it all the more hearing Francis Chan himself reading the book. This time, I am taking a group of college students through it and pairing the book with John, chapters 14-18 so we know exactly what Jesus said and promised regarding the Holy Spirit. Do we have a relationship with the Spirit that lives within us? Do we even know how to do that or how to think of Him? How can we, as believers in the modern church, look different from the world around us? The answers lie here in this practical yet profound book about the Helper Jesus promised to send. It's an easy read because Chan writes/reads as though he were sitting right across a table from you, sharing his heart's passion over a cup of coffee. Included are short biographies about Spirit filled people who Chan admires and you can't help but do the same when reading/hearing their stories. They are just ordinary people doing extraordinary things because of the power of the Holy Spirit inside them. Encouraging, convicting, and accessible even for those who struggle with Christian nonfiction (like myself), this is a book I think every believer should read at least once.

This was recommended to me after listening to an absolutely dreadful telling of The Scarlet Pimpernel, which was a book that I loved in my youth but found repetitive and unimaginative by comparison to Scaramouche. Sabitini's skill with words and depth far surpass the Baroness Orczy and provide a fast paced, enjoyable perspective of The Republic's beginnings via André-Louis. The narrator was excellent. If you love well written historical fiction, look no further!

I have read this book twice and watched the movie several times. Both are beloved favorites and so when I went on a road trip with my mother, I thought this would be a good fit for our long drive. The reader has a decent narrators voice but her voice for Marguerite is sickly sweet (think Miss Piggy) and the emotions are all read with the exact same inflection whether male or female. I found myself laughing out loud at some of Marguerite's interactions because they sounded utterly ridiculous.
