In this perennial best seller, embraced by organizations and industries worldwide, globally preeminent management thinkers W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne challenge everything you thought you knew about the requirements for strategic success. Confirms my issue with reading business classics
Revisado: 01-18-25
This book is a classic, and that’s the problem with it. Unfortunately, there aren’t many new ideas in the world, so everything that’s in this book has already been retold, retold, and then retold again, all in your newest bestseller of whatever year you’re reading this in. Moving from commoditized business to connecting with people on a personal level. Thinking beyond the competition by not fixating on price or value but on solving solutions people didn’t even know they had or were previously unable to have fixed by way of one fell swoop. It’s a great book, but everything in here you’ve probably already heard by way of a different book or if not that—social media 100%.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Enjoyable listen. I wish they would’ve expanded as it missed some details from the book, but great performances throughout

Historia
Most people rely only on their life experience to make investment decisions. This causes them to overlook cyclical forces that repeatedly reshape economies and markets. Investing in U.S. Financial History fills this void by recounting the comprehensive financial history of the United States of America. It begins with Alexander Hamilton’s financial programs in 1790 and ends with the Federal Reserve’s battle with inflation in 2023. Investing in U.S. Financial History reveals that there is almost no financial event that is unprecedented.

Probably one of the better books I’ve gone through. Most books claim to be complete or comprehensive, but this literally takes the reader through a comprehensive history of the US financial markets and history. Higgins has pulled off a legit work with this one!

Historia
Ray Dalio does not want you to listen to this audiobook. Late last year, when the billionaire founder of Bridgewater Associates, the largest hedge fund on the planet, announced that he was stepping down from the company he started out of his apartment nearly 50 years ago, the news made headlines around the world. Dalio cultivated an aura of international admiration and fame thanks to his company’s eye-popping success, coupled with a mystique he encouraged with frequent media appearances, celebrity hobnobbing, and his bestselling book, Principles.

I was very skeptical, but it is what it is.
Revisado: 09-23-24
Writing this as someone who really liked Ray Dalio and his insights starting in 2019, I was angry to see this book coming out early last year. I did not get around to finishing it until just recently, but it came as quite a surprise.
To say that men are not angels is an obvious statement, but it's always a little more painful and a little more in your face when you go into excruciating detail such as found in this book. While I truly do not now the motive of the author behind this book, I can say it was obvious he didn't seem to say much in the book (even Dalio's accomplishments) without stating them in some sort of backhanded way. This is a red flag, as it shows more of a personal approach to writing this book than a pure journalistic rendition of the truth.
Ray obviously has his demons, but his success cannot be denied. With that said, we ought to be careful of giving any flowers to any successful person beyond what I just did. They are not heroes. They are not sinless. They normally may not even be someone to emulate regardless of their success and power.
I caution anyone who reads this book to think long and hard about what is in it, especially those who looked up to Dalio as I did, but also caution those ready to throw stones. If someone were to write a book about your life (about any of our lives), what would they find? More specifically, if they were looking to write a book about the "downfall" of you, what would they selectively choose for their story? Interest read indeed. Difficult to rate for the reasons given above.

Historia
Is life insurance a bad investment? Don’t I lose all my cash value when I die? Shouldn’t I just make a bundle and invest it instead? What about my spouse or my kids—do they need life insurance? Can I borrow money from (or is it against?) a life insurance policy? My insurance advisor told me one thing about insurance, but my financial planner gave me different advice, and an expert on TV said something else entirely. What do I do now? Help!

I’m just disappointed. I thought I was finally going to hear a life insurance salesman actually provide facts as to why they like their product but it’s more of the same. These guys will never change.
