Must read from an optimistic perspective

Worth the read if you struggle with tough conversations but value relationships and are open to changing your mind. I hope people don't read this book looking to be able to convince or manipulate others, but rather to deepen connections and understanding. If you have any background in mental health fields much of the initial chapters and ideas will likely be review or skills you already practice.

an author who cites eugenicist "researchers" and gives an incredibly narrow view of a complex situation is right here in this book. if you enjoy stories of "pulling yourself up by the boot straps", supremacy, and pretentiousness masquerading as understanding this book is for you.

The human stories are interesting, as is the glimpse into psychology 30 years ago. But, and it's a BIG but, I seriously hope no one is reading this for advice, compassion, and certainly not parenting or counseling guidance. The narration is great, I just wish the narrator was given a book written in an inclusive and trauma informed way.

This is an incredibly timely and important book. I work in a High School and my students echo these sentiments daily. This is a dose of honesty and hope.

I downloaded this book for a 6hr train ride so when I started it, after boarding the train, I felt a bit trapped. The train has WiFi but not download quality WiFi. Once I was 6 hours in I was committed despite reservations but honestly if I hadn't been trapped I would never have made it that far. I came to genuinely appreciate the message of this book, but the delivery was painful. My vocabulary does not include words like 'lit', 'lit train', 'bobble heads' or 'pop rocks' and it was incredibly hard to take a book promising depth seriously with these words or phrases repeated constantly. If you can get past the delivery there is some wisdom though. Trigger warning to anyone not comfortable hearing the 'everything happens for a reason' concept applied to childhood sexual assault.

If what you are looking for is a thriller just know you have a bit of read before you get there, but the ending keeps it interesting. If what you want is to feel validated in the experience of being a woman in today's society you came to the right place. Great expression of the authors understanding of the dichotomies facing women.

I actually believe in the principles of TRICK when it comes to parenting and being human, but you could learn this concept in an hour on your own without this book. This book was hours of the author praising herself in a drawn out humble brag. The 'injustices' she has 'faught' to rectify could not be more privleged and her need to tell the world how great her kids are somehow doesn't come across as a sweet pride but more of an obnoxious pride. I'm guessing she treats her children and students with more respect than she does her readers, the judgement is laid on thick.

so timely and important for everyone to hear the unique perspectives of the urban Indian. the story itself is engaging and continuously leaves you wanting to see who will connect next, but I think the overall voice of this book is what matters most.

Much along the lines of how Johan Harri forces you to question why things are the way they are and what you actually believe Michael Pollan does the same. Part history part personal accounts this book is both educational and thought provoking. There is much to be gained from reading this book but I think it is an especially important read for those born in the 80s and beyond who much of this history is not taught.

I loved the way the story was told through different perspectives and the way villians were given some semblance of a soul but this book was disturbing. It's raw and hard to listen but very well done.
