Historia
It’s a blazing summer when two men arrive in a small village in the West of Ireland. They’re coming to get rich, but what they bring is trouble. Waiting for them is Cal Hooper, a retired Chicago detective who moved to rural Ireland looking for some peace. He’s found it, more or less – in his relationship with local woman Lena, and the bond he’s formed with tearaway teenager Trey Reddy. As the two men circle the townland with talk of a scheme to find gold in the mountainside, Cal gets ready to do whatever it takes to protect Trey.

Such a disappointing book from a favourite writer
Revisado: 09-30-24
I didn’t even finish this. It felt interminable. I have loved Tana French so much so when I selected this with my precious monthly credit I was excited. Four hours into it on a long drive and the story hasn’t even moved. I wish I could still return a book as this was just boring.

Historia
Newly minted homicide detective Nell Buchanan returns to her home town, annoyed at being assigned a decades-old murder — a 'file and forget'. But this is no ordinary cold case, as the discovery of more bodies triggers a chain of escalating events in the present day. As Nell starts to join the pieces together, she begins to question how well she truly knows those closest to her. Could her own family be implicated in the crimes? The nearer Nell comes to uncovering the secrets of the past, the more dangerous the present becomes for her, as she battles shadowy assailants and sinister forces.

Gripping and beautifully written
Revisado: 06-20-24
Chris Hammer, like Jane Harper, writes landscape and terrain into his books like another character. You can smell, feel and hear his ‘forest’. His plot winds and undulates through this gripping read.
I loved this book and the reader was brilliant - earthy like the landscape, a great Australian voice that works well with the characters of the story.
This is highly recommended to keep you alert and on edge through a very long car journey.

Historia
One day Jody was found lying at the foot of a staircase on her way to give a client a beauty treatment. When she recovered and talked of a man with a goat and a yellow-and-black front door, her brother-in-law and Charles, her fiancé, told her she was imagining things. But Jody was unconvinced, and determined to find the man she remembered, leading a small goat.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-13-19
I love Elizabeth Cadell’s gentle dated stories and frequently amusing writing.
This was a silly story, a wet heroine, an incredibly unbelievable and unlikely scenario and even the ending was unresolved.
It wasn’t worth the time it took to listen to it!

Not my Taste
Revisado: 04-07-11
This was an indicator that I should always listen to a sample before buying a book. I found the reading very sweet - what my son once called 'talking in pink'.
Worse - the story was weak and the writing overblown - the hero's eyes were 'faceted gold' - and I kept having images of insect eyes.
I LIKE an occasional bodice ripper - but this was one I could not even force myself to listen to for more than half the book. I have read books by Sandra Brown before and had not had the same level of irritation with them. I think it was the combination of writing and reading that was so unfortunate.
It was a valuable but expensive lesson.
