Ledger series getting long in the tooth
Revisado: 09-11-17
Perfectly serviceable Ledger book, but not much new ground covered. Felt like a mash-up of story beats cut from earlier novels.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author Kim Stanley Robinson returns with a bold and brilliant vision of New York City in the next century. As the sea levels rose, every street became a canal. Every skyscraper an island. For the residents of one apartment building in Madison Square, however, New York in the year 2140 is far from a drowned city. There is the market trader, who finds opportunities where others find trouble. There is the detective, whose work will never disappear—along with the lawyers, of course.

A wasted concept
Revisado: 06-07-17
Basing this story in 2140 in a post-climate change New York was an odd choice as the societal and technological changes play an insignificant role in the story. I guess the author was trying to create some separation from the recent events that are constantly being referenced.
Also, I'm not sure the average people of 2140 would be as obsessed with 19th and 20th century literary figures as the author supposes.

Historia
From "the master of alternate history" comes a new trilogy that reimagines a mid-20th century in which General MacArthur, without bothering to consult President Truman, detonates nuclear warheads in several Manchurian cities after China enters the Korean War. In his acclaimed novels of alternate history, Harry Turtledove has scrutinized the twisted soul of the 20th century, from the forces that set World War I in motion to the rise of fascism in the decades that followed.

This Bomb's a dud
Revisado: 09-27-16
A typical Turtledove effort, chock full of filler designed to stretch an interesting concept into three or more book. Turtledove lavishes time on scenes of ordering beer or planting crops while major cities are blasted into atoms in a paragraph or less.
If you've read a Turtledove book or two you've read this paint-by-numbers instalment.

Grey really describes the story
Revisado: 05-17-16
Not a ton of character development or nuance to this story. The more memorable characters are minor and secondary.
The Grey Man is just that, drab and dreary.

Great story
Revisado: 02-17-16
A well done spy thriller / action adventure story where the super spies are just as human and flawed as everyone else. The narration is subtle without being dry with enough tension and emotion where needed.
Looking forward to the next instalment!

Historia
The Galactic Empire is dying and chaos and anarchy are breaking out everywhere. After a disastrous mission against terrorists on Earth itself, Captain Edward Stalker of the Terran Marine Corps makes the mistake of speaking truth to power, telling one of the most powerful men in the Empire a few home truths. As a result, Captain Stalker and his men are unceremoniously exiled to Avalon, a world right on the Rim of the Empire. It should have been an easy posting...

Poorly written and read
Revisado: 01-26-16
Only made it a third of the way in, this is not a good book. Thankfully I only wasted a credit on it.
The author could do with an stricter editor and a few classes on character development.
The narrator could do with a voice capable of more than a monotone drone and a few classes on pronunciation of common words of the English language.
Give this one a pass.

Great atmosphere
Revisado: 01-16-16
Older does a good job narrating his own work. The atmosphere is great however the story lacks a bit in connecting details which would allow it to flow a little more smoothly.
