Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Captivating Tale
Revisado: 07-27-24
Superb performance with lively voices and enactments. My first experience, listening or reading The Hobbit and I will surely follow with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It’s no surprise that these books are beloved Classics. The mythical tales and convening of different perspectives is an especially pertinent theme in today’s world.

Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Remarkable Story, Beautiful Performance
Revisado: 10-21-23
This book is captivating and addictive. The story reveals in-depth research and expert knowledge in the world of medicine. Most importantly, it’s an intertwining of lives with characters that feel real and tangible and plot lines that twist and merge to an exciting flourish at the finish
Listening to the book, narrated by the author is a true treat. His expert depiction of the dialect adds depth and excitement to the story.
This is the book that I will purchase for the bookshelves to return to time and time again for the beautiful pros. I’m happy to have listened to the novel read by the author first, because I feel like I’ve learned so much more about the culture by his heartfelt depiction.

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Charming, uplifting tale of the transformational power of nature
Revisado: 03-12-22
This is easily one of the most uplifting, tender, and sweet stories I have read/heard. I find it astonishing that I’ve lived over three decades on this earth without hearing these words.
The story illustrates the healing power of nature and gratitude. Richard Louv’s, “Last Child in the Woods,” was published nearly 100 years after “The Secret Garden.”
Louv‘s book is research and data driven to support the thesis that spending time outside is healing for children and adults alike. “The Secret Garden” is a beautiful fiction story describing just that hypothesis. I found myself smiling, crying with joy, and anxious to plant seeds of my own.

Historia
Published in 1922, Fitzgerald's second novel chronicles the relationship of Anthony Patch, Harvard-educated, aspiring aesthete, and his beautiful wife, Gloria, as they await to inherit his grandfather's fortune. A devastating satire of the nouveaux rich and New York's nightlife, of reckless ambition and squandered talent, it is also a shattering portrait of a marriage fueled by alcohol and wasted by wealth. The Beautiful and Damned, Fitzgerald wrote to Zelda in 1930, "was all true."

Historia
A natural storyteller and raconteur in his own right - just listen to Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption - actor, comedian, carpenter, and all-around manly man Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) brings his distinctive baritone and a fine-tuned comic versatility to Twain's writing. In a knockout performance, he doesn't so much as read Twain's words as he does rejoice in them, delighting in the hijinks of Tom - whom he lovingly refers to as a "great scam artist" and "true American hero".
