Ephemeral, yet deep
Revisado: 08-05-22
It took me a while to slow down, listen, and appreciate the author's stream of conscienceness type voice. The beauty of this book is the way so many of life's small moments are captured and framed. Take a moment to reflect on the randomness of life without clear motivations. There is a depth of humanity written here that you won't find in most books.

Simple
Revisado: 02-02-22
Too simple, with no subtlety. A "power corrupts absolutely" trope. Also, humans just don't have the dexterity in their toes or feet to manipulate the controls of a system that manipulates gravity to effectively fly...

Historia
Decades before the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin lamented that English settlers were constantly fleeing over to the Indians - but Indians almost never did the same. Tribal society has been exerting an almost gravitational pull on Westerners for hundreds of years, and the reason lies deep in our evolutionary past as a communal species. The most recent example of that attraction is combat veterans who come home to find themselves missing the incredibly intimate bonds of platoon life.

Unbelievably poignant
Revisado: 11-30-18
Unbelievably poignant about the modern societal problems I think we all feel, but haven't intellectualized much less thought about how to solve. Junger has done both here succinctly and brilliantly.

Technically engaging
Revisado: 01-05-17
I struggled to start and keep with the first third of the book. Most of it felt cliché, but the middle and the last third was very engaging. The author also does a great job describing the technical aspects and implications of the story.
