A Signature Performance: Kenneth Branagh plays this like a campfire ghost story, told by a haunted, slightly insane Marlow.

Superb narration; boring, incomprehensible book
Revisado: 11-24-21
I had never read Heart of Darkness in my 62 years on this planet. Finally broke down and listened to this book after recently re-watching Apocalypse Now after 40+ years. Still don't like that movie. But at least Kurtz had something to say in it. Heart of Darkness is boring and incomprehensible. One gains no understanding of Kurtz, his motivations, or even a clear picture of why his employers want to get rid of him. I only finished this book because I really wanted to understand what Conrad was trying to say with it. No such luck. I suppose that it's anti-colonialist, but I have a hard time believing that the racist attitudes that it is shot through with were not Conrad's own beliefs. A product of his times I suppose. The only reasons I don't feel my time was wasted is that the book is fairly short, Kenneth Branagh's narration is superb, and I now know that Heart of Darkness is massively overrated.

Historia
For the first time ever, the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has produced an audio recording of all of Lovecraft's stories. These are not dramatizations like our Dark Adventure Radio Theatre - rather, this is an audiobook of the original stories, in all-new, never-before-heard recordings made by the HPLHS' own Andrew Leman and Sean Branney exclusively for this collection. This collection spans his entire career from his earliest surviving works of childhood to stories completed shortly before his death. All tales include original music by HPLHS composer Troy Sterling Nies.

Has TOC
Revisado: 07-03-19
Just downloaded to the Audible app on my iPhone. It has a fully functional table of contents in the Chapters section. All stories labeled and subchapters within stories have names if Lovecraft named them. Jump around all you want. Outstanding value for one credit.

Historia
The 16th and 17th centuries saw the emergence of a new threat to government and organized society. Privateers and pirates raided along the coast of powerful countries and were, at times, at war with England, France, and Spain. They developed their own system of rules, a code of morality, and a very rough form of government. Pirates were eventually able to organize behind a captain who eventually would become like a governor with judicial power over all the pirates and control over settlements taken by the pirates in raids.

Not even worth $4
Revisado: 09-15-13
Would you try another book from Randall Morris and/or Ronald Clarkson?
Very doubtful.
What was most disappointing about Randall Morris’s story?
Didn't learn anything.
What about Ronald Clarkson’s performance did you like?
At least I could hear and understand it.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No.
Any additional comments?
Far too short. Dull monotone narration. Nothing here that you can't learn for free in a few minutes on Wikipedia.
