Cairo, 1912: Though Fatma el-Sha’arawi is the youngest woman working for the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities, she’s certainly not a rookie, especially after preventing the destruction of the universe last summer. So when someone murders a secret brotherhood dedicated to one of the most famous men in history, al-Jahiz, Agent Fatma is called onto the case.

Love this world, loved the main character, when is the next one! Thos is the kind of idea that just comes out of left field and knocks your socks of. I just wish this had more time so I could understand the setting better. I need more books

More please
Revisado: 03-13-21
I am thrilled to find another series of books to enjoy. The narration is on point and the main character is just so enjoyable with his hard outer shell and his inner heart of gold. Please Audible bring us more. I want the whole series as soon as I can afford them.

Historia
Born in the Greek city of Miletus, Aspasia was destined for a life of tragedy. Her wealthy father vowed to abandon any female child, so Aspasia was secreted away, educated independently of her family, and raised as a courtesan. She discovered at an early age how to use her powers of intellect as ingeniously as those of the flesh. Ensconced in the Persian harems of Al Taliph, she meets the man who will change her fate: Pericles, the formidable political leader, statesman, ruler of Athens, and Aspasia’s most cherished lover.

If you know anything about Ancient Greece this is
Revisado: 05-08-20
This is the first book review I've ever written which is a pity because there are so many great books out there. THIS is not one of them. Right from the first it is screamingly homophobic which if you know the first thing about Ancient Greece it would put you off. Also there seems to be some confusion in the authors mind between ancient Persia and maybe the the Ottoman Empire??....I'm not sure and I really don't want to find out but I've read enough real history about the Persian of the time period this is supposedly set in to know that a Satrap.....a governor of a district of the Persian Empire would have no time much less inclination to be what seems mostly to be a merchant.
The author also seems to be trying to bend the Aspasia towards a Christian mindset and considering this is several hundred years before the birth of Christ it is jarring and nonsensical.
The narrator also seems more fitting to be reading a news cast or a sporting event. If the main character is female maybe choose a female narrator. I'm returning this book before the nausea it induces overcomes me..

Mother and warrior. Scholar and spy. Rebel and hero. Set in a magical world of terror and wonder, this novel is a deeply felt epic of courage and war, in which the fates of these characters intertwine - and where ordinary people become heroes, and their lives become legend.

One of the best experiances of the year
Revisado: 10-24-17
Plague of Giants might be one of the most enjoyable books on audio I have ever listened to. and specifically enjoyable on audio as a medium. You really get the experience of listening to a Bard unfolding a story rather than just telling it. I think Kevin Hearne really has captured something like what it must have been to listen to epics in a great hall with the fire lighting a Great Hall and people gathering closer to catch every detail.
And that’s the next best part….I know I’m going to be listening to this book again and again because I know I didn’t catch all the details first time through. The world building is absolutely topnotch and through the framing device of the Bard Finton you are gradually exposed to the world and it’s magic without ever being told a single thing. The book does not talk down to it’s audience rather it allows the audience to get themselves up to speed all the while enjoying the development of a truly vast cast of characters.
I was also pleasantly by how NOT like the Iron Druid Chronicles this is. I adore those books but I have to give my respect to an author who can start another series so totally unlike his first. This takes a whole new level of talent and Kevin Hearne certainly has it.

Historia
This is Irving Stone's powerful and passionate biographical novel of Michelangelo. His time: the turbulent Renaissance, the years of poisoning princes, warring popes, the all-powerful Medici family, the fanatic monk Savonarola. His loves: the frail and lovely daughter of Lorenzo de Medici; the ardent mistress of Marco Aldovrandi; and his last love - his greatest love - the beautiful, unhappy Vittoria Colonna.

absolutely impossible to put down!!!
Revisado: 05-16-16
I got this because I love renaissance art and I'm fairly fond of the movie inspired by this book. This is a thousand times better. The story of Michaelangelo 's life is one of so much conflict and passion and the narration fits to a T. This is a must have book for any art lover.

Historia
Right before the wise old wizard Drum Billet died, he passed on his magical staff of power to the newborn eighth son of an eighth son. Unfortunately, Drum Billet never bothered to check the gender of the newborn baby, and it turns out to be a girl. Now his chauvinistic colleagues are forced to deal with a young girl who has all the qualifications to join their all-male profession. Terry Pratchett's third Discworld novel, Equal Rites, asks many provocative questions about magic, where it goes, where it comes from, and why.

why I say Terry Pratchett was a feminist author
Revisado: 03-16-15
This book is just the first of many in the Discworld where female characters are the movers and shakers. male characters are somewhat...incidental.
Also the first appearance of the incomparable Granny Weatherwax! who is the very definition of strength and determination. I prefer Nigel Planer or Stephen Briggs for narration but there is simply no way to ruin a book by Sir Terry
