Historia
In April of 1846, 21-year-old Sarah Graves, intent on a better future, set out west from Illinois with her new husband, her parents, and eight siblings. Seven months later, after joining a party of pioneers led by George Donner, they reached the Sierra Nevada Mountains as the first heavy snows of the season closed the pass ahead of them. In early December, starving and desperate, Sarah and 14 others set out for California on snowshoes and over the next 32 days endured almost unfathomable hardships and horrors.

I have listened to this audio book several times through. It's such a well written book. Daniel James Brown really captures the struggles and hope that the immigrants had during their trek across the west.

Historia
In 1873 the people of Labette County, Kansas made a grisly discovery. Buried by a trailside cabin beneath an orchard of young apple trees were the remains of countless bodies. Below the cabin itself was a cellar stained with blood. The Benders, the family of four who once resided on the property were nowhere to be found. The discovery sent the local community and national newspapers into a frenzy that continued for decades, sparking an epic manhunt for the Benders.

A wonderfully written piece about a macabre and horrible bit of prairie history. It's a must read/listen.

From "America's principal chronicler of its greatest psychopathic killers" ( Boston Book Review) comes the definitive account of Ed Gein, a mild-mannered Wisconsin farmhand who stunned an unsuspecting nation - and redefined the meaning of the word psycho.

Real Life Horrors are scarier than Fiction.
Revisado: 12-27-20
The book was wonderfully written. It showed the true horrors and lack of mental health help that Ed Gein so desperately needed in his younger years. As a resident of western Wisconsin it was good that the author brought up Evelyn Hartley although Gein didn't have anything to do with her disappearance, at least it keeps the case in the readers mind 67 years later.
