Historia
Few men can say they have known Africa as Capstick has known itleading safaris through lion country; tracking man-eating leopards along tangled jungle paths; running for cover as fear-maddened elephants stampede in all directions. And of the few who have known this dangerous way of life, fewer still can recount their adventures with the flair of this former professional hunter-turned-writer.

If you’re an a hunter, outdoorsman, or conservationist listen to this book!
Revisado: 01-16-25
Being a whitetail deer hunter from Illinois, have a BS in Geography, and thoroughly love learning about the natural world. That said, I was stunned by some of the statistics noted about animal incidents in Africa, and genuinely shocked at the animal encounter stories that Capstick recounts.
Although there are a few comments geared towards those of the anti-hunting community for their general lack of conservationI, I feel if this book was authored today it would likely be much more condescending.
Death in the Long Grass provides an amazing view into the harsh true nature of the relationship between predator and prey in the real world. It also reaffirms that humans are directly incorporated into this world. If a human is in the wrong place and doesn’t have their wits about them, they will quickly and brutally be educated on their role within the animal kingdom.

A great story that gives insight to life of National Guard members, their sacrifices, and their commitment to duty.
Revisado: 01-16-25
I enjoyed this book. Not only did it give a very accurate account of the day to day life of an Illinois National Guard member’s tour of duty in Iraq, but also the struggles of life away from home in the Land of Lincoln.
Dr. Robert Elliott’s detailed telling of events, scenery, and emotions were well constructed and engaging. Not having served in the military myself, but having many friends who have, it gave me a deeper understanding of the commitment to country, mission, and duty that our National Guard members have.
The narration by Michael J. Downey was performed exceptionally well. Mr. Downey was able to seamlessly convey the wide range of emotions that the author experienced before, during, and after his tour in Iraq.
