Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

We all have the sense that the American economy - and its government - tilts toward big business, but as Joseph E. Stiglitz explains in his new book, People, Power, and Profits, the situation is dire. A few corporations have come to dominate entire sectors of the economy, contributing to skyrocketing inequality and slow growth.

To hear "no drama Obama" narrate his own memoirs was a treat. He does not disappoint when he describe the dramatic events of the first four years of his presidency, all told in his very own characteristic style we have been used to hearing during his years in power. After four years of Donald J Trump it was comforting to hear the words of a President with an impeccable demeanor and character and a true public servant. I cannot wait for the next installement.

Another document detailing the Trump dissaster
Revisado: 04-13-20
Have read quite a few documentations of the run away corruption and incompetence of the Trump administration. This reporting is another well researched attempt to give a detailed description of the inner machinations of an administration in increasing control of a narcissistic serial liar and sociopathic conman. It is a frightening depiction of the failure of the american political system to produce competent and honest public servants.

A remarkable story about the rise of a dictator.
Revisado: 01-29-20
Gessen writes in a somewhat dry and matter of fact style that seem to be very Russian. The subject matter is also very Russian of course. It is a fascinating story with an incredible amount of detail exposing the rise of a not too sofisticated street thug to become the head of the Russian federation. He later develops into a worldwide egomaniac. The connection to the present authoritarian US President makes it even more contemporary and interesting for any American who wants to understand the relationship between US and Russia.

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

If you are religious, this book can change your life forever. It should be required reading in school. So much suffering under religious edicts that can be spared if more people put "god" in its right place, at the trash heap of history.

The Second World War lasted for 2,174 days, cost $1.5 trillion, and claimed the lives of more than 50 million people. Why did the Axis lose? And could they, with a different strategy, have won? Andrew Roberts's acclaimed new history has been hailed as the finest single-volume account of this epic conflict. From the western front to North Africa, from the Baltic to the Far East, he tells the story of the war - the grand strategy and the individual experience, the cruelty and the heroism - as never before.

Historia
When we seek an example of great leaders with unalloyed courage, the person who comes to mind is Winston Churchill: the iconic, visionary war leader immune from the consensus of the day, who stood firmly for his beliefs when everyone doubted him. But how did young Winston become Churchill? What gave him the strength to take on the superior force of Nazi Germany when bombs rained on London and so many others had caved? In this landmark biography of Winston Churchill based on extensive new material, the true genius of the man, statesman, and leader can finally be fully understood.

Excellent story telling of a fascinating life.
Revisado: 03-28-19
The narrator does a good job of imitating Churchills well known voice when retelling the events that so many people over the last century have followed. Being no expert of late nine teen and early twenty century history I cannot say how accurate the story is, but there seem to have been a great deal of research into both the failures and successes all through the life of Churchill. It is a well worth effort to listen to this story and a good beginning of more digging into this period of world history, whether you agree with the description or not.
