Historia
When you listen to music, do you prefer lyrics or melody? Intricate harmonies or driving rhythm? The “real” sounds of acoustic instruments or those of computerized synthesizers? Drawing from her successful career as a music producer (engineering hits like Prince’s “Purple Rain”), professor of cognitive neuroscience Susan Rogers reveals why your favorite songs move you. She explains that we each possess a unique “listener profile” based on our brain’s reaction to seven key dimensions of any record: authenticity, realism, novelty, melody, lyrics, rhythm, and timbre.

This should be a tv series
Revisado: 10-25-22
This just doesn’t work as an audiobook, or even a regular book. It is interesting information but it should definitely be a mini series on PBS or something instead. It also doesn’t help that the narrators voice is incredibly irritating lol I got two thirds of the way through and then just had to stop cause I couldn’t take it anymore

Historia
The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

The narration was unbearable
Revisado: 09-06-22
I read this book because I was interested in her journey with MS. She talks about that some, but a lot of the book feels very scattered and bounces around from topic to topic. And her consistently crying or getting choked up when recounting traumatic parts of her life just absolutely killed it for me. If I had read it instead of doing the audiobook maybe I would’ve liked it better, but it was just too much

Historia
In 2014, on the side of a Los Angeles freeway, a One Direction fan erected a shrine in the spot where, a few hours earlier, Harry Styles had vomited. “It’s interesting for sure,” Styles said later, adding, “a little niche, maybe.” But what seemed niche to Styles was actually an irreverent signpost to an unfathomably large, interconnected, and influential multiverse: stan culture. In this book, Kaitlyn Tiffany, a staff writer at the Atlantic and proud superfan herself, guides us through the nebulous online world of fans, stans, and boybands.

It's a One Direction book
Revisado: 08-26-22
If you aren't a fan of One Direction you probably won't enjoy this book. I was so excited about the concept of the book, in theory it's a book that's basically made for me. But I never listened to One Direction, so the book didn't resonate with me at all and I had to return it
