Historia
On a freezing February day, a stranger emerges from out of the gray to request a room at a local provincial inn. Who is this out-of-season traveler? More confounding is the thick mask of bandages obscuring his face. Why does he disguise himself in this manner and keep himself hidden away in his room? Aroused by trepidation and curiosity, the local villagers bring it upon themselves to find the answers.

Hard stories, well told, great book
Revisado: 09-16-20
These stories are hard ones for readers of all ages. My 10-year-old has a huge passion for history and already loves this author. But this book took the mental processing of hard historical truths and brought it to a very emotional level. I had great conversations with him afterwards and I feel like his ability to see past someone's current state and see them as regular humans, just like us. But as humans with a greater desire for freedom and safety than for pride or status. I highly recommend this as a family read/ listen!

Words cannot express the emotions evoked by this
Revisado: 02-13-20
I am a typical American gringa who was fortunate enough to move to Mexico in the early 2000's on a work Visa for a short, one-year contract. I was such a baby back then but my true adulthood started in Mexico and therefore it holds fast to an important place in my heart. I knew middle-class women from Acapulco. I traveled through the country, paying passage tolls to the cartel's rural road thugs. This story has a hold on my thoughts.
This is why.
This is how.
Good grief, this is terrible!
How can I help?
