Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Fun Thought Provoking Nerd Nostalgia
Revisado: 02-25-25
This was some of the best sci-fi I've "read" in a long time! It was a great mixture of whimsy, puns, and great story telling! The story had plenty of twists and turns combined with fun sci-fi and the moral dilemmas that come with it! in addition to all that goodness, the plethora of nerd-lore referenced throughout was both amusing and nostalgic. And to top it all off, the narrator did a phenomenal job!

Historia
Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to coexist peacefully as equals, without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

Best Sci Fi I've ever read!
Revisado: 04-22-24
While it was a little challenging getting used to the names and keeping track of who was who (as an ignorant white guy), it was completely worth sticking with it for the story line! I lived that we weren't just dropped into a future where technology just worked like magic, but we were taken on a journey of discovery and failure to get to such a highly technologically advanced world! It was mind bending and challenging and felt like a realistic possibility. I also loved how more attention was focused on the human reaction than just the alien aspect. At least half the problems that were faced were because of humanities issues!

Revisado: 12-13-22
Such a fun and well told story on its own, but the fact Sanderson is really starting to integrate worlds and magic systems even more and giving us a glimpse of the bigger picture is amazing!!!

Historia
Current child-rearing techniques seek to develop children who are confident, self-assured, and unafraid to speak their minds-lions instead of lambs. Although largely positive, this shift has brought with it some very serious problems in our children's behavior. Without going back to an authoritarian model, Joe Newman has developed new ways of helping children develop the ability to self-regulate without undermining their confidence, and individuality.

Excellent book... for training animals
Revisado: 11-28-22
I know everyone has different parenting techniques and I normally would just say, "To each his own." but this book flies in the face of SO many other parenting books that it seems borderline abusive. Will it change your child's behavior? Almost certainly! Trauma always does!! It will likely even make them more compliant and follow rules better. But it will do so at a great cost and with negative long-term consequences for surface-level short-term gains.
it is possible to force a child into compliance by installing fear in them and using physical strength to get them to obey... until they become big enough to use their physical force to get others to obey. The means we use are at least as important as the ends we seek. And the means this book encourages, will only teach that "might makes right." "Because I'm stronger than you, you must over me."
The author even seems proud of his lack of credentials when he developed this methodology. Then he chose to go to school to be able to back up the things he was already doing. If you desire compliance more than teaching, you can certainly train your child as an animal and it will appear quite effective for a while. But if you would prefer to raise a human being, I'd highly recommend Dr. Ross Greene's books instead!

Interesting, but not captivating
Revisado: 11-28-22
There were some really interesting concepts and twists in the book, but I didn't feel like it warranted the length of the book. I read this directly after reading Snow Crash and this one was not even remotely as engaging. He did a good job of unpacking some of the complexities and confusion surrounding code breaking during WWII as well as complex wartime relationships, but to do so, he had to include tons of things that felt very extraneous for a good majority of the book. It is probably fairly realistic, but not necessarily in a good way. More like, the realism of everyday life; which is too boring and complex to read a book about. It feels like this book could have used a good editor who could have halved the content.

Dramatization Almost Ruined the Story!
Revisado: 05-14-21
I'm a huge fan of everything Brandon Sanderson has written, otherwise, there is no way I would have finished this book! The dramatization was such a huge distraction that I could barely enjoy the story!!! Just get a good narrator and skip the theatrics. At Its best, it felt corny and forced; at its worst, you couldn't even hear the dialogue.
Also, for the length of the story, they should offer the entire trilogy for a single credit! Even if it were done well, this is a very short book for a credit.

20,000 Leagues Underwhelmed
Revisado: 09-21-20
I never read a lot of the books I was supposed to read in school WHEN I was supposed to read them. Since then, I've gone back and read tons of the books I was assigned and absolutely loved them... that was NOT my experience with this one.
Too many useless technical (or at least technical sounding) details that made the story drag on. I zoned out multiple times during this story and only finished it to be able to say I did. Maybe it was a great story for it's time, but I have no idea why it currently has such high reviews.
Would not recommend.

Author Jemar Tisby reveals the obvious - and the far more subtle - ways the American church has compromised what the Bible teaches about human dignity and equality.

Disturbing, yet necessary
Revisado: 06-07-20
At different times throughout the book I found myself troubled by my ignorance, sickened by the things black people endured, and embarrassed that it has taken me so long to learn all this.
The book was very informative and challenging. I would highly encourage Christians to read it!

Revisado: 08-18-19
If you read The Explosive Child and liked it, this book is a great refresher! It provides more examples and a few different angles on how to handle things and why. A bit repetitive if you listen to them back to back, but repetition helps it sink in!

Historia
Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: These kids aren’t attention-seeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren’t passive, permissive pushovers. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach to parenting.

Amazing approach, but abridged version is better!
Revisado: 08-16-19
I got the abridged version of this in 2017 because the full version didn't exist yet (normally, I would always go with the full version!). I downloaded this copy of it, excited to get the full book, but the narration made the entire thing a disappointment. It felt very robotic and like the reader didn't really know what they were talking about; just reading words, but not making them into a story. I might not have minded so much, but the abridged version is read by the author and it sounds like he is just having a conversation with you about it. His inflection and tone make it so much easier to listen to and it honestly hit all the main points, but with fewer examples and repetition.
The approach outlined in this book is outstanding (although, difficult at first) and I would highly recommend it! But I would recommend learning the strategy from either the abridged version of this book or his newer book Raising Human Beings.
