Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Best audiobook I’ve heard in years!
Revisado: 12-06-20
“The Nightingale” is one of my new favorites. I’m typing this review just a few minutes after I finished the audiobook. The characters have depth, and the story is adventurous but believable, as well as loving, heartbreaking, tender, exciting, suspenseful, tragic, heroic, inspiring, surprising, amazing...... I couldn’t turn it off! Polly Stone is an excellent narrator too - she is super effective at altering her voice to reflect different characters, without sounding exaggerated or silly, and she reads at just the right pace. I can hardly wait for the movie release!

Listening to it feels like making a new friend who is honest and unpretentious yet classy. It is especially comforting and inspiring under the current administration. Enjoy!

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Excellent and true!
Revisado: 09-10-18
Some memoirs are enjoyable, some are not. Some bestsellers get me hooked on the story, others make me wonder why the heck the book even made the list. So, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this one was GREAT! It made you feel a lot of different emotions - at times cracking up laughing, at times near tears - while also being thought-provoking, and broadening your perspective of the complexity of inequality in society - while also remaining really entertaining at the same time. I love that he made the characters in the book come alive - well, actually, they are real people, not products of his imagination, and the clarity and depth of his words made you feel like you are getting to know them personally. Listening to it as an audiobook and hearing the feelings and cadence of their voices made it even better. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed getting to know Sunny!
Revisado: 06-04-18
This book had a different vibe than the previous two books in the track series (Ghost & Patina), yet it was equally enjoyable. The narration was much more showy and dramatic, which was a little startling at first, but as the story goes on, it makes you feel more as though you are really getting a glimpse into Sunny’s feelings and thought patterns. Looking forward to more from this author and narrator!

Historia
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

A thought-provoking adventure
Revisado: 12-06-16
The thrills of a superhero story, the profoundness of a legend, the drama of a saga..... Yet it maintains the meaning of a parable, the tenderness of a teenage girl's heart, and the depth of timeless philosophy. Triss (the protagonist) really draws you in as she tells her tale. By letting you hear her innermost thoughts as she tries to figure out how the world works, and who she is within it, you find yourself doing the same thing - and as Triss challenges herself to accept her own non-conventionality in order to become the best person she possibly can, you end up doing that too in your own life in the present - yet you don't feel like you are pushing yourself; you just feel like you're enjoying an exciting story. I could not put this down! It's been a long time since I got hooked on a series, but I'm on the verge of starting the next one as soon as I finish typing this review!
