Historia
Laurie Zaleski never aspired to run an animal rescue; that was her mother Annie’s dream. But from girlhood, Laurie was determined to make the dream come true. Thirty years later as a successful businesswoman, she did it, buying a 15-acre farm deep in the Pinelands of South Jersey. She was planning to relocate Annie and her caravan of ragtag rescues - horses and goats, dogs and cats, chickens and pigs - when Annie died, just two weeks before moving day. In her heartbreak, Laurie resolved to make her mother’s dream her own.

Historia
Wyoming, 1876. For as long as they have lived on the frontier, the Bemis and Webber families have relied on each other. With no other settlers for miles, it is a matter of survival. But when Ernest Bemis finds his wife, Cora, in a compromising situation with their neighbor, he doesn’t think of survival. In one impulsive moment, a man is dead, Ernest is off to prison, and the women left behind are divided by rage and remorse.

Love these Families
Revisado: 01-16-20
I love these families - how they struggled, survived and slowly became friends. What I truly enjoyed about this book was the sweet prose and descriptions of the land, plants and animals. Well done!

Historia
In Men Explain Things to Me, Rebecca Solnit takes on the conversations between men who wrongly assume they know things and wrongly assume women don't. The ultimate problem, she shows in her comic, scathing essay, is female self-doubt and the silencing of women. Rebecca Solnit is the author of fourteen books about civil society, popular power, uprisings, art, environment, place, pleasure, politics, hope, and memory, most recently The Faraway Nearby, a book on empathy and storytelling.

Si si si - This Book Says It Like I Think
Revisado: 02-08-18
I like this book. Ms Solnit develops the story as the state of being for women in our culture due to the believed norms of society -- mostly run by men. At first I thought it would be a book on how men communicate with women or the lack thereof. OMG. So wrong.
I highly recommend this book for all women and men.
It's a great book group book also. Thank you Ms Soinit

Historia
The Blue Sweater is the inspiring story of a woman who left a career in international banking to spend her life on a quest to understand global poverty. It all started back home in Virginia, with the blue sweater, a gift that quickly became her prized possession - until the day she outgrew it and gave it away to Goodwill. Eleven years later in Africa, she spotted a young boy wearing that very sweater, with her name still on the tag inside.

Read this book

Everyone should read this book. Especially those who live by the status quo - too many Americans take clean water & health & housing for granted & all they do is complain about their favorite football team or how much gas cost. Enough already.

Historia
An investigative journalist uncovers a hidden custom that will transform your understanding of what it means to grow up as a girl. In Afghanistan, a culture ruled almost entirely by men, the birth of a son is cause for celebration and the arrival of a daughter is often mourned as misfortune. A bacha posh (literally translated from Dari as dressed up like a boy) is a third kind of child - a girl temporarily raised as a boy and presented as such to the outside world.

Compelling story ...
Revisado: 04-27-16
This book has revealed customs about Afghanistan sexuality that are very reveling. I was aware of the way women are treated/regarded but had no idea to the extent of their struggle for survival. Ancient cultural ideologies of other countries are also explained going back to pre-Islamic times. I highly recommend this book.
