Entertaining for kids and adults
Revisado: 11-29-18
Oftentimes I can't stand the books that my kids listen to. But this is not one of those books. In fact I think that I may have enjoyed this book a lot more than my kids. I think that they best way to put it is that this book has personality. It is quirky and fun and I will definitely be listening to it again.

Historia
When the story begins, a mother duck's eggs hatch. One of the little birds is perceived by the other birds and animals on the farm as a homely little creature and suffers much verbal and physical abuse from them. He wanders sadly from the barnyard and lives with wild ducks and geese until hunters slaughter the flocks. He finds a home with an old woman. The duckling sees a flock of migrating wild swans. He is delighted and excited, but he cannot join them, for he is too young and cannot fly.

Not the story you read to your kids
Revisado: 08-06-18
This was a much different story than the one that I remembered reading to my kids, and in my opinion it was much better. The ugly duckling had a much broader character arc. He suffered through abandonment, persecution, starvation, freezing, and a number of other traumas. I don't think that the content would be too traumatic for little ones unless they are especially sensitive.
Greg Rizzo did a great job narrating. He has just the right amount of inflection to keep interest in the story without making it sound cheesy.

Great story for children
Revisado: 07-24-18
I was a little bit concerned that this story would be a little too morbid and scary for my 7 year old. Some of the original Grimm fairytales have a somewhat morbid twist. This story, however, wasn't too bad.
The worst parts for children were the fact that their parents wanted to abandon them in the forest and the part where they shoved the witch in the oven. Nothing was too graphic or gruesome for my 7 year old.
The narrator did a great job and I felt like she was a good fit for the story.

Historia
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner relates the experiences of a sailor who has returned from a long sea voyage. The mariner stops a man who is on the way to a wedding ceremony and begins to narrate a story. The wedding-guest's reaction turns from bemusement to impatience to fear to fascination as the mariner's story progresses, as can be seen in the language style: Coleridge uses narrative techniques such as personification and repetition to create a sense of danger, the supernatural, or serenity, depending on the mood in different parts of the poem.

A fun literary classic
Revisado: 07-24-18
I had heard of this poem, but never taken the time to read it in it's entirety. I was surprised at the number of references to this poem that I had never recognized in pop culture.
This poem, like a lot of literary classics, is a little bit dated and can, at times, be a little tricky to follow. The extra effort to understand it pays off though, and the overall story is very delightful.
The narrator did a good job with a lot of the tricky cadences in the poem. His voice was also the perfect fit for the story.
Overall, I thought it was a decent book. Well worth my time.

Same delightful tale you remember from childhood
Revisado: 06-11-18
This was a really fun story about a naughty little rabbit that disobeys his mother and breaks into the farmers garden. The farmer then catches him and chases him all over the place.
The narrator had a slight english accent which seemed like a perfect fit for the story.
My kids really liked the story and the only complaint that they had was that it wasn't any longer. I definitely think that it's something that they'll want to listen to again.

More to this children's poem than I remembered
Revisado: 06-11-18
I remember the first couple of verses of this story from my childhood, but I was honestly surprised at how many additional verses there were that I had never heard. There was a lot more to this story than just a mother cat getting after her naughty kittens for soiling their mittens. There was a cat ball, and a famous mouser named Sir Rouser, and lots of cat dancing.
I got this mostly because I have a six year old daughter that I thought might appreciate it. She enjoyed it and thought it was fun, but honestly I think that most of the poem went over her head because it included many older words that aren't commonly used anymore (like caterwauling).
The narrator did a great job with a lot of fun inflections. He also imitated a great purring cat sound.

I wish there was an abridged version
Revisado: 04-18-18
This was a good book. I loved the imagery that Larry McMurtry uses to describe thing, it was very easy to visualize. I also felt like this book was historically accurate for the time period. I came away feeling that I learned a lot about what it may have been like in the old west.
Altogether it was far too long and slow moving to keep my interest though. Maybe I just have a short attention span, but by then end of the book it started to become somewhat of a grind and i found myself lusting after other books.
The narrator was amazing and I loved his different accents, tones, and inflections that he uses for all of the different characters. The audio quality, on the other hand, was atrocious. The sound quality made me think that this book was copied off of an old cassette tape. At random points in the story the audio quality would suddenly completely change.

Historia
Okay, so what's Bitcoin? It's not an actual coin, it's "cryptocurrency", a digital form of payment that is produced ("mined") by lots of people worldwide. It allows for peer-to-peer transactions instantly worldwide, for free or at very low cost. How does Bitcoin work? Internet users transfer digital assets (bits) to each other on a network. There is no Online bank; rather, Bitcoin has been described as an Internet-wide distributed ledger.

A solid, well-rounded overview
Revisado: 01-30-18
This book was a great quick overview of what bitcoin is, why it's important, and what you need to know about it.
The thing that made this book the most useful, in my opinion, is the lists and examples that are included. For example a list of Bitcoin exchanges is given along with a security rating for each of them. There is also a list of concerns/things you should know about bitcoin where a lot of common misconceptions are put to rest.
If you don't know anything about bitcoin and would like to understand what all of the hype is about then I'd recommend this book, it would be worth the time. Just remember that, like the title says, this book is geared toward beginners.

Historia
As a Man Thinketh is a literary essay and book by James Allen, published in 1903. It was described by Allen as "... [dealing] with the power of thought, and particularly with the use and application of thought to happy and beautiful issues. I have tried to make the book simple, so that all can easily grasp and follow its teaching, and put into practice the methods which it advises. It shows how, in his own thought-world, each man holds the key to every condition, good or bad, that enters into his life, and that, by working patiently and intelligently upon his thoughts, he may remake his life, and transform his circumstances.

Timeless advice that everybody should learn
Revisado: 12-27-17
This book is a good short read packed with great quotable tidbits. I think that I'll eventually end up buying a physical copy of the book so that I can highlight it and mark it up.
The language of the book can be a little tricky because it was published in 1903. The phrasing is just a little bit different than modern vernacular and it reminded me a lot of listening to scripture being read. It's not too bad though, it just required a little bit more focus than usual to comprehend.
Overall, I'd say that this is a solid book that is well worth the hour that will take you to finish.

Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. Not quite what I was hoping for
Revisado: 12-14-17
This book wasn't quite what I was hoping it would be. I can't quite put my finger on why. It had all of the elements that I love, video games, space battles, and the fight for human survival. For some reason the book just never really grabbed me. I don't regret reading it, but don't go into it expecting anything like ready player one.
