Terrible Dialogue

The woman acts like a spoiled 2 year old even though shes supposed to be a strong worldly experienced woman. Couldn't stand any more after chapter nine and the pony cart.

I Dislike stupid characters!

for example. this dialog - Oh no, my lady, they've burned the village and all of our homes! They've set fire to our crops and killed our live stock! Winter is coming and they've killed our Laird. What should we do? We have no one to tell us what to do! Who will help us!

Ugh!! Not even half way through chapter one. I just cant stand it.

Irritating Lady

Started out pretty good, but the leading lady who was supposed to be strong and spunky, became irritating enough, I wanted to slap her. Her name calling was forced and no longer cute by the end. And every action up to the last 10 minutes showed her to be a unrepentant gold digger. Then at the last second she is suddenly so in love she would give it all up for him.

Too Much Flip Flop

I just couldn't take all the inconsistencies. H&H both, but mostly Heroine spent most of the time going from absolute hatred, fear and distrust to absolute adoration and complete trust with no reason for either. Instant attraction is fine, but the relationship never built or over came issues. It just flip flopped back and forth. Brenna would consent to do this or that and then right in the middle suddenly stop and demand something stupid before she would go on. Plus, I usually like Antony Ferguson as a narrator, but this time, I had to laugh every time he said Brenner instead of Brenna.

Couldn't get past the child abuse!

Ok, so I know it existed (and still does). I've also listened to other books that had a sick character with those types of sexual depravity, but in this book, it happens more than once, and good people see it, know about it, are disgusted, but do absolutely nothing. They continue to "avoid scandal", "honor the family name" they never do anything to stop it or protect the 5 year old blond boys. Made me intently dislike all the main characters. They were so selfish and so self centered, they never thought twice about the abused children. and in the end they pitied the sick-o.

Good Story

I liked the story and the people very well. I also liked the narration for the most part. Except for the attempt of a new Orleans accent which was pretty bad. Mostly the female voices were fine for me. The voice for Tavish made me laugh. I thought he sounded like he was from India. But it wasn't enough to ruin the story.

IMO This book was terrible. The story was very predictable and boring and Tedious. I probably could have finished it anyway, but about midway through chapter 19 ... you've got to be KIDDING me.... "William your sword is poking me" "That's not my sword" "Oh my gosh its a tree root", "Oh William, why is it looking at me".... I couldn't take any more than that. There's some badly written love scenes out there, but this took the cake! I couldn't finish the book
